Do I need to do a TM30 for a friend staying with me on holiday?

Featured Replies

I live in a rented house and have a friend who will visit on a tourist visa. What do I need to file with immigration to register his location, and what is the process?

Will the friend be dealing with immigration eg for extension?

No. The visa on arrival will be enough time, but we'll do some domestic trips and stay in a few hotels during his stay.

Others will advise you to file a TM30.

I would do nothing.

The domestic trips most likely the hotel etc will file a TM30.

Again irrelevant.

The friend is a tourist entering Thailand visa exempt. (not visa on arrival)

I travel regularly all over Thailand three days in udon 4 days in Bangkok 3 days in Phuket as an example I don't file any TM 30s wouldn't even consider it I've been doing this travel like this for the last 10 years that I've lived in Thailand zero issues

Yeah, me too, but I don't want my friend to get hassled on the way out of the country. If it's not a big deal to comply, I don't mind getting it done by the book.

I wouldn't worry about it.

Who does yours?  That's the same process for anyone staying in your house.  He won't get any hassle on the way out.

No one gets hassled for failure to do TM30 or TM47 when leaving Thailand.

The only time failure to do those can cause problems is when going to the immigration office to request some type of service.  If your friend is just arriving visa exempt and leaving within the 60 days, you don't need to worry about it at all.

Your friend wouldn't be hassled on the way out of the country because the people at passport control where you stamp out don't care if you filed a TM30 or not because it's not their job..

To my knowledge not a single person has ever been asked if they had filed a tm30 while they were here when they go to stamp out of the country.

I concur 100% with @DrJack54 if they're not going to go to the immigration office and get an extension while they're here don't bother filing a TM 30.. nothing will happen when they go to stamp out..

But still the TM 30 is not your problem.
