Great idea, travel all the way to Thailand and buy some Sprite , Skittles and Kinder joy .    Hopefully his next stop will be  Tops supermarket where Western goods are double the back home price

  • Good thing he did not try and buy beer between 2-5 in the afternoon.

  • 7-11 shops should be closed down as a health hazard. So much of their 'food' and drinks are junk food full of chemical additives.

Well , i'm surprised at what 2 or 3 pounds cannot buy anymore here.

So he bought a pile of refined sugar for 100 baht... Congratulations 😂

So you DON'T eat sweets ?

No sugar in coffee ?

No cakes?

No biscuits with your cup of tea or coffee?

I try not to eat that junk. Stopped sugar in coffee years back. Never had sugar in tea and stopped using milk in tea decades ago. Cake only at birthdays. An occassional Biscoff with tea/coffee - that's it. But usually nothing. Ice cream from time to time (one every two weeks or so). Bear in mind there is sugar in almost everything you eat as a Westerner. Even Thais regularly use sugar and MSG in the food they cook. So you are likely already getting more than your daily intake of sugar, fats and salt without even thinking about it. Keeping glucose levels below 100 becomes a challenge in any case as you get older. Adding sugar makes it worse of course.

In Australia, 7/11 are the most expensive usually charging twice what you pay in a supermarket. I was surprised in Thailand they are often the cheapest option.

Again in Australia, the big chain stores are usually cheapest for hardware and other goods. It is the opposite in Thailand where the local hardware shop, grocery shop or small engine shop is often cheaper than the big chain stores, with better after-service care.

Try Foodmart and Villa Market next sunshine

It is ingenious how 7/11 offers goods here at nearly the same price one would pay at a supermarket. In the US they are very expensive and barely ever used for food products.

Although there aren't really any large Western sized/priced  supermarkets in Thailand .

Western supermarkets sell things cheaper than Thai 7/11's

I see this blockbuster made it to the lead article of the day, thoroughly deserved!

Great article, thanks!

He could have but a half a kilogram of nice UK cheddar for that 2. 50 I think it's time for him to go to a supermarket and check the real prices

Think his teeth would've cost more than 2 pound 50

Wow so easily stunned.

How about following some real stories

like the flooding in the south of Thailand

,how about starting a collection for them?

Stupid... He did not buy normal stuff only some drinks and candy...indeed Thailand is cheaper than the UK...but 111THB is a lot for people on a daily wage of 400 THB a day. And he want to save 100k GBP to live im Thailand, but he will soon know that foreigners have different prices than Thai

but he will soon know that foreigners have different prices than Thai....But......NOT In 7-11's !!

Yeah, I'll bet He Wouldn't Get All those Sweeties in either of those places for 2.50p ( 111 Baht )

He will be telling us that  Thai food is cheaper than eating farang food in a resteraunt next

Plus already mentioned not so cheap for local Thais on a daily minimum wage

Okay for Foreign tourists on Holiday plus probably ex-pats living here

Yes.

but send him to the cheese and wine areas.

I'm sure he will have a shock and then run back to the 7/11 for a toasty and a bottle of water. :giggle:

Then you can send him to Foodland for local cheddar and other cheeses--about half the price of the imported cheeses.

I think they're eating more and more of it. And my local Foodland stocks locally made cheese. I buy it all the time. It's good enough, especially for cooking.

Couldn't bother to read anything above this post. But I'm driven to say all You Boobers are idiots.

That's an absurd comment. Do you think 7-Eleven sells more junk than every other convenience store or supermarket in Thailand? No, it does not!!

No one is forcing you or anyone else to buy junk. Most balanced people buy some junk food, but don't live on it. Have you never eaten a chocolate bar or had an ice cream? Live a little! You're going to die anyway. Being a die-hard health nut is a stressful life, and can kill you faster than if you are more relaxed about what you eat.

Just trying to protect my sanity. Is that a bad thing? 555 This nonsense goes on ad finitem. Is anyone else tired of it ? 55
