That's interesting, never considered Thai cheese.

I will check that out next time I'm near a Foodland.

Hope it's very strong tasting cheddar or it will be a waste of time for me.

Forget it, it's rubbish

Great idea, travel all the way to Thailand and buy some Sprite , Skittles and Kinder joy .    Hopefully his next stop will be  Tops supermarket where Western goods are double the back home price

  • Good thing he did not try and buy beer between 2-5 in the afternoon.

  • 7-11 shops should be closed down as a health hazard. So much of their 'food' and drinks are junk food full of chemical additives.

Look at all the fat Thai people waddling around these days, the West is not any better. Then look at photos of people in the 1960s or 70s.

Hardly a tubby in sight.

Because they weren't eating junk food daily or even weekly.

The rise in cases of diabetes, bowel cancer, heart diseases can be laid at the door of foods with high sugar, sodium and chemical additives content.

And Thais consume a lot nowadays

You say "the West is not any better". Take another look around... the West is far, far worse. The fat ones are usually the rich ones who can afford enough junk food to get fat.

The subject was 7-Eleven, and some sticklers seem to be shocked at how much confectionery and other unhealthy food they sell. Discussion of how the population is becoming more obese is a subject for another thread, another day.

With regards to 7-Eleven, they don't sell any more or less than any other retailer. If they can't find what they like at 7-Eleven, they'll go somewhere else.

Plus the Thai pension per month if just over 60 is ,I believe , 600 THB. I would not last half a day with that amount.

Also my Thai wife said it's not "means tested" which surprised me as it is means tested  in Australia. Thus I do not get a pension and so it should be in Thailand so those that really need it get a bigger pension to survive. Example such rich people, according to my wife, get the basic pension anyway, such as Thaksin and so on. But maybe my Thai wife is wrong which is often! God bless her.🥰

My initial thought exactly: if this kind of content draws 800,000 followers, we are doomed as a species. (Or, assuming he monetizes his online influence, I’m in the wrong line of work ...)

It will be a waste of time for you. I like mild cheese, so it hits the spot for me.

Can someone 'refuse' the State Pension in UK?  Sirs Macca, Jagger, Cliff, Tom and Elton!

Anyone can. You don't get paid the UK state pension until you claim it. You can also defer it (with the intention of receiving an increased pension at some stage) indefinitely therefore never receiving a state pension.

So, presumably you would advocate for every other shop that sells exactly the same items as 7-Eleven to be shut down also?

Right on Lou. Save the nation and the world.

In Australia, 7/11 are the most expensive usually charging twice what you pay in a supermarket. I was surprised in Thailand they are often the cheapest option.

Again in Australia, the big chain stores are usually cheapest for hardware and other goods. It is the opposite in Thailand where the local hardware shop, grocery shop or small engine shop is often cheaper than the big chain stores, with better after-service care.

True for America, too.  I only shopped at 7-11 a few times a year, and then only when I was desperate for something as the prices were so high and I was usually cash-strapped.  Here we are at a 7-11 a couple times a week.

Ban all junk food. The West has started to ban under 16 year olds from using phones, time to ban the junk food that will harm them and kill many before their time.

In Tescos in the UK now they have  overpriced'ready meals', full of processed chemicals. And the young lap it up.

I realise though this thread is about prices at 7-11, they are just one of the many examples of a franchise peddling junk.

So you DON'T eat sweets ?

No sugar in coffee ?

No cakes?

No biscuits with your cup of tea or coffee?

Your understanding is correct and accurate.

No sugar in coffee, ever. Also, I rarely drink coffee. Tea mostly.

And, I have NEVER been known to add anything to my Chinese tea.

No cake for me. I hate cake. Reminds me of the French Revolution.

I have not had any cake, or cakes, for well-over two decades.

No biscuits, ever, these days.

Last time I had biscuits was when I was in HK, before the commie takeover in 1997.

Of course, I add about one tablespoon of sugar to a 1.5Kg loaf of bread dough...but...

The yeast eat t he sugar, and not I.

So, as you have stated, I DON'T eat sweets.

Whoopdee do...who cares, geez, come on a holiday, and all you do is shop at 7eleven, then post about it...life must be pretty boring in the UK, if you get excited shopping at a corner store.

Maybe he is is unable to shop at 7-Eleven in the UK, for fear of getting mugged on the way to the store.

Here in Thailand, this is not a concern.

Of course, they can but why would they after they've applied for it?   State pension doesn't get paid automatically, it has to be ap[lied for, if someone doesn't want it, they don't have to apply.

Nonsense.  Some countries are banning under-16s from social media, though.

No, completely different.

Not completely different, Lou. Many, many young people engage social media via their phones.

Now is this one of your five minute arguments or is it the full half hour?

You have to watch Tops, they charge different prices in different shops, my wife misses nothing,

No reason, at all, in that hypothetically posed situation, but to refuse that theoretical benefit it must have been applied for, they are not awarded automatically.  A pension that has not been applied for cannot be refused as there is nothing to refuse.

There it is again, my doing nothing more than pointing out fact, as opposed to your falce claim, is, once again, characterised as "an argument" yet you seem to think (hypocritically) that your joining in the same discussion is not an argument!  Rationalise that.

Lou, you really need to develop a sense of humour.

Brit Stunned at How Much £2.50 Buys in Thailand's 7-Eleven

image.jpeg

A British traveller visiting Thailand was astounded by how far his money went at the local 7-Eleven. During his trip, he decided to see what he could buy with £2.50 (approximately 111 Thai baht), and the results left him astonished. Capturing the shopping trip on TikTok, the Brit enthusiastically shared the experience with his 796,000 followers, showing off his four-item haul.

The video begins with the traveller chuckling, revealing each item bought. A vitamin C drink cost him 20 baht, about 47p, while a Sprite was 19 baht, around 46p. For something sweet, he added a tub of Skittles, priced at 25 baht or 59p. To complete his spending, he picked up a Kinder Joy for 33 baht, rounding up the total spend to £2.50.

Users on TikTok were quick to engage, with the video garnering nearly 60,000 likes and numerous comments. Some joked about how costly such an adventure would be in the UK, with one user quipping: “Cost about £20 in the UK.” Another remarked on Thailand's affordability, saying: "Gonna save £100,000 and just go retire in Thailand."

7-Eleven, a globally recognised convenience store chain, had a presence in the UK from 1985 to 1997, operating over 50 stores before being acquired by the UK brand Budgens. Many in the UK experience a sense of nostalgia when discussing 7-Eleven due to this historical connection.

A recent online revelation about the 7-Eleven logo has also intrigued many. Discussions have popped up about the logo’s distinctive style with its uppercase “ELEVE” and lowercase “n.” According to a company spokesperson, this design choice was intentional and thought to be more aesthetically pleasing, reported Mirror, UK.

Key Takeaways:

  • A British traveller found four items in a Thai 7-Eleven for just £2.50.
  • The video has sparked comments on cost differences between the UK and Thailand.
  • 7-Eleven's historical presence in the UK ended in 1997.

400 Baht for a tin of corned beef in Tops the other day. I passed, but nearly passed out.
