A 45-year-old American man was discovered dead in his Krabi resort room on November 24, with a severe arm injury leading to fatal blood loss. The man, identified as Thomas, was found by Ao Nang Police after they were alerted by the resort staff in Ao Thalane, Mueang district. Investigators suspect a broken glass caused the injury, as there were no signs of struggle or theft.

Thomas had been in Krabi since checking in alone on November 13, and the resort owner mentioned that he had been dealing with depression. Accounts from a witness noted that he returned to his room after drinking alone around midnight. Resort staff tried to wake him for lunch but found the door unlocked and his body inside.

Police are considering the possibility of an accidental injury from handling the glass but have sent Thomas’s body for a full autopsy to confirm the cause of death. Authorities are working with the American embassy to notify his family and manage the repatriation.

There was a similar occurrence in Phuket last month when a New Zealand woman was discovered dead, which was believed to be due to a mixture of alcohol and prescription medication. Police found two glasses of cocktails and the medicine packages in her room, reported The Thaiger.

Key Takeaways

  • An American tourist was found dead in a Krabi resort with a severe arm injury.
  • Police suspect accidental self-injury, with no signs of foul play.
  • Authorities are coordinating with the US embassy for family notification and arrangements.

Is Krabi really that boring?

Almost as much as your response

Another tragic ending to what should have been an adventure of a lifetime.  RIP Young Man and prayers to your family.

So he cut himself and bled to death?

That must have been agonizing.

If true, not agonizing.  The blood loss makes you weak, faint then unconscious.  But messy for the room maid afterwards....

Why at the end of the article do they jump to a completely different topic? From American tourist who cut his wrist to New Zealand lady who mixed medication and alcohol?

Maybe a new thread, "Tourists dead in hotel rooms"?
