Why Do Many Men in Thailand Never Escape Bargirl Mode?

Featured Replies

It’s like watching a slow-motion train wreck in the LOS. Some of you have been here for decades and yet your idea of an attractive Thai woman hasn’t moved even half a todger since your first bar fine. You’re still chasing that same 90's bar girl vibe like it’s the pinnacle of beauty in Siam while actual women, people who look after themselves, carry themselves with style and don’t exist to catch a white middle-aged walking-wallet, are completely invisible to you.

It’s like watching someone trapped in an endless loop of teenage hormones smothered in Vaseline and Penthouse centerfolds. Some eventually move on, noticing things that actually require taste, class or experience, but many are still stuck at “new girl in tiny knickers.”

So you got the eternal go-go aficionados, the creepy old letchers still sneaking glances at anything young enough to be their daughter, and then the few dudes who can actually see women beyond the neon lights and stilettos.

a key aspect of addiction: the powerful role of memory and brain chemistry. The brain fundamentally changes with repeated substance use, making the pursuit of the original "fix" a deeply ingrained process [1].

Here is a breakdown of the process you've described:
  • The Initial High (Serotonin and Other Neurotransmitters): Early substance use often leads to a massive flood of neurotransmitters like dopamine, serotonin, and opioids in the brain's reward system. This intense initial feeling creates a strong positive association with the substance [1, 2].
  • Physical Adaptation and Tolerance: As use continues, the brain adapts to these high levels of chemicals. It produces less of its own natural neurotransmitters and reduces the number of receptors, leading to tolerance. The original "fix" fades away physically, as you noted; the person needs more of the substance just to feel "normal," not even to get high [1].
  • The Power of Brain Rewiring (Memory): This is where memory becomes critical. The brain's reward pathways, particularly the hippocampus (memory center) and amygdala (emotion center), form powerful associations between the substance, the feeling it provided, and the cues in the environment (people, places, stress) where it was used [1, 2]. The brain remembers the promise of the original reward long after the physical ability to achieve that exact same high is gone.
  • Cravings and Relapse: These strong memories and conditioned cues trigger intense cravings. The brain drives the individual to seek the substance again, attempting to replicate that initial, powerful reward sensation, even though it's physiologically impossible to achieve the same effect

Yes, I have an old-fart friend that's been in Thailand for decades. Yet every time a girl walks by he's caught up in a trance, staring and drooling until she's out of sight. If we're in conversation he wants me to repeat everything I just said because he lost concentration. I don't bother because half way through I'll lose him again. With sex always on his mind, he has the attention span of a gnat.

It's not about the fix, we all need fixes, it's about what continues to attract them to this types of appearance to begin with.

A professional woman have many treats so it comes down to availability at the right time. The addiction to continue is a bit more complicated as described above. All addiction have similarities. In extreme sport you got your kick everytime you did something new, or a new challenging place, but everything faded away by time and you needed more, and could not stop. You take higher risks even you see people around you dies, you always find an excuse to continue.

When you stop doing it, you get a physical and mental withdrawal symptoms, and sex is no different.

But for most men coming to Thailand, many of the are lonely, and the bars is where they socialize

what do you think ?

It´s only one word for that kind of pack. Losers!

They are just too scared to have a conversation with a real woman. Rightly so, as they would probably have nothing interesting to talk about, as their brains are occupied with thought of next sex with a little girl between 18-25 that holds the hand of their 65–80-year-old body for 1h and call them papa.

Revolting, people that are still wet behind their ears. Have lost all concepts of reality and are behaving like overgrown retards.

hmmmmm..... looks like I managed to find a few words more.

I had a few friends visiting me here in Thailand, and couldn’t go out with them after dinner, they completely lost it, and at once we got out of the hot spots, they start crying and got restless, and had no patience to keep it going.

Even took a few of them on a longer motorcycle trip, and had to find sleepovers with at least one promised girly bar or decent massage.

Another one found a Caddie on first golf course visit, and stayed with her rest of his trip. Still in contact with her, so we will see

I think they've been banging tarts for 30 years, it's all they know, and it stunted the growth of their interpersonal skills with the opposite gender. So they became career alcoholics and career bar-fine addicts instead and they never learned the simple methods of speaking to real woman.

For many, if not paying for it, they'd never have sex.  Nothing wrong with that, as the gals & guys need customers.   Keeps the world safe, as just think what would happen if all the pressures of life, on these lost souls, didn't have a release.

I do not prefer bar life, or bar culture, but I have to say, the easiness of just having one regular for uncomplicated sex could be tempting if I gave up women, but on the other side, I couldn’t do it out of many other reasons.

For those who do not have any mental blocks if that is the right wording, I can understand.

You can still go out in the nightlife to scratch an itch for some strange every now and then. But then you also get involved with women in the real world. Can do both and not get too involved with P4P women. But mostly you got blokes who only live only in that world, surrounded by bar girl tragedy.

Freelancers comes more easy to date but for most to expensive, and dating is not free wherever you go in the world, and I wouldn’t take advantage of of women who was serious when I just wanted a bang, and nothing more. As said there is advantages and drawbacks with either way

It's a fake myth being propagated that "normal non bar-girls" are not attracted to wallets and don't need financial support.

It's only 5% of women in thailand who a middle-aged man might meet that doesn't need financial support.

My immigration officer is looking or I would rather say fishing for a man. Done that for years now, and my wife starting to get annoyed.

There is hips of Thai women above 30, with education and no kids, but they are like the grey swans who do not know how to swim yet.

What's the size of her hips and how much does she make?

I've never been with a woman, who needed my support.  They were all quite self supporting before and after our relationship.  Self confidence, free thinking & independence is an attraction, turn on for me.

For others, it's too intimidating, as without need for their money, they know they have no control, or are desirable for anyone to be with them.

I've been in a long-term relationship with one such girl, but she (after frequently just 'disappearing' without saying 'why', or 'where' she went), finally just left me. Tried dating sites after, but those 'actual women' I contacted (who were initially interested in me) just told me outright: "Where do you live? Thailand?? Sorry, not interested (in expats)!"

China has the most prostitutes in the world at around 5 million. Can you imagine what would happen if all those men didn't have a release?

After 15 years of full on bar girls, it got old.

and so did I.

Still a laugh to have an afternoon out with some mates once or twice a year.

Especially if there's  someone new to Thailand in the group.
