Day 22. Chiang Mai City and South

My first goal today I failed, Wat Ku Magluer, here.

https://maps.app.goo.gl/Lj4oBMTm9AQQbDN29

Access seems to be via someone’s garden.

Leaving the area I stopped at an old temple, Wat Ku Khao ancient site, here.

https://maps.app.goo.gl/pEQs8h4LvAKRj9mj8

I then went to Baan Tawai Woodcarving & Crafts Village for a quick walk about.

https://maps.app.goo.gl/AYjfEAuW73mN3z5o9

Returning to the city I stopped again at the Irrigation Steel Bridge as I was passing.

Day 24. C.hiang Mai to Doi Peung

Today I rode to the summit of Doi Peung. The start of the climb is here.

https://maps.app.goo.gl/MUy29trgFFbNg95u7

The way up is track and concrete strips for car wheels most of the way up. A little steep in places.

At the top there are some Buddhist building and trees wrapped with saffron coloured cloth to protect them.

Then the area opens up to a paragliding take off point.

Yesterday the ride I planned got dropped as I decided to have an easy day and go photograph Chiang Mai’s Train Station. Stopping to photograph some street art on my ride back.

Today I decided to ride the Samoeng Loop. It was cool and fresh this morning with lots of bikes riding it too.

There were nice views at The Samoeng Forest Viewpoint, here.

Day 28. Chiang Mai to Lamphun and South Exploring.

Riding south of Lamphun to ride some tracks that go to a reservoir today. I turn off R106, here straight onto track.

https://maps.app.goo.gl/RsiPVgfLQ6BcDdXA8

Riding to the reservoir edge there was no water so I continued on exploring.

Eventually looping back to R106, here.

I then headed to the north side of the reservoir and found water and people fishing.

Next was a hilltop temple, Wat Mon Chom Tham (Wat Ho Tham), here. Some good view on the ride up.

Day 33 and I rode back to the irrigation channel I ended my trip at yesterday. For such a small channel there was a huge flow of water.

I continued a few kilometers along the track to the un-named reservoir from yesterday, here.

I then headed north alongside a bigger irrigation channel and continued on to On Tai Community Dark Sky Reserve and Mae Pha Haen Reservoir, here.

Day 37 today and my plane was to ride to R1322 and ride up the mountains for the views. Even though I know the road is badly potholed.

My route was to ride up to the  Doi Ang Khang area on a different route than I usually use, starting here at Chai Prakhan.

https://maps.app.goo.gl/KVQdptkPiPwpUewn7

Up to R1178, where and eventually turning on to R1178 south.

I continued until R1322, stopping at a reservoir Nong Moo Ho, here.

https://maps.app.goo.gl/XEJ9oL9PxPzqn6nX9

One km up the road I came to a road block stopping access due to road repairs.

I decided to ride back with my  next stop at Sui Tang Viewpoint and Campsite, here.

https://maps.app.goo.gl/xGodMWaCKt58DpEPA

I then continued to the Army Base, Doi Ang Khang Base of Operations, here.

https://maps.app.goo.gl/jEMLSNduEQu197LF8

I then back tracked and rode down R1249, my usual way up.

Today I could not make up my mind where to go, eventually I thought I would ride up to Kiew Lom Campground, here.

https://maps.app.goo.gl/t2yhBis5p7ZEyKDU7

I had ridden up years ago on my PCX, todays route was not the same and the road eventually turned to track. This must be another way there, but I was not in the mood for off road riding and did a U-turn, here.

https://maps.app.goo.gl/hQTBpq23zw5NhfKZ6

I did stop at Hiang Thai Thamrong Border Patrol Police School to take a photo.

https://maps.app.goo.gl/dY6ARF94S4Bs8LbB7

My next goal was Nam Mae Laeng Luang Reservoir, which I got near to, but could not find the way to the water, but was very near.

Today I started with a ride to a tourist place, Mae Fah Luang Garden, here.

https://maps.app.goo.gl/bKVAcgRNd6n8N3zA8

Beautiful gardens in the mountains and worth a look.

Next I headed for the mountain ridge that forms the border between Thailand and Burma, my first stop was the army checkpoint here.

They would not let me take photos of the view, but were ok being photographed themselves.

I the rode to Chang Moob Military Outpost, here.

Today I rode to Mae Lao Weir area. My first aim was Nam Huai Matuen Reservoir, which I got very near to, but the tracks marked to it were not there.

Next was Nam Kio Chang Khap Reservoir, here.

I did find this place, just a small reservoir.

From here I rode to Mae Lao Weir, here.

I could not cross the weir, so I back-tracked and rode to Wat Phra That Wang Thong, which was in need of paining and repair.

Thought I recognized that. The irrigation ditch/canal that runs north past Phan crosses the 118 and ends up at Singha Park?

We usually ride on the concrete on the otherside.
