I think this is the pot calling the kettle black

Did he wrap the cooking pot in tin foil to block the government mind control rays? 🤔

Can't be too careful...

Better protection than the cheap plastic helmets they sell at Big C.

A foreign motorcyclist in Phuket has sparked a social media frenzy after being photographed riding with a cooking pot on his head instead of a helmet. The photos, shared by The Phuket Times Facebook page on December 9, show the rider on a grey motorcycle wearing black clothing and the shiny aluminium pot. The quirky incident quickly grabbed attention, igniting both amusement and concern among Thai netizens.

The images, captioned with a light-hearted remark about the unusual headgear, stirred reactions ranging from jokes to serious safety discussions. Some users humorously commented on the pot's potential to heat up in the sun, while others sarcastically noted the rider's attempt at head protection. However, many criticised the behaviour as irresponsible, emphasising that the pot wouldn't protect against accidents.

Concerns also emerged about the implications of such acts on road safety perceptions. Several commenters highlighted the risks of severe injury or death, arguing that such behaviour might encourage others to violate traffic laws. Others viewed it as a sign of disrespect, suggesting it mocked Thailand's traffic regulations by implying foreigners could sidestep rules without repercussions.

This incident comes in the light of heightened scrutiny regarding foreign motorcyclists in Phuket. Recently, similar cases in the region have ignited debates over road discipline. For instance, a foreign rider faced backlash after illegally crossing a traffic island, splitting public opinion. Additionally, three foreign riders were penalised for running a red light, each receiving a 4,000 baht fine, while rental owners were also fined, according to The Thaiger.

In another incident, a foreign rider fled after crashing into a local baht bus and two parked vehicles, although thankfully no one was injured. These cases underline ongoing tensions around the adherence to traffic laws among foreigners in Phuket.

Key Takeaways

  • A foreign rider in Phuket went viral for using a pot as a helmet.
  • The act drew mixed reactions, highlighting road safety concerns.
  • Recent incidents have sparked debate over foreigners’ traffic conduct in Phuket.

On Phuket concern among Thai netizens. It amazes me that Thai's out number foreigners by God knows how many times its always posted what foreigners are doing wrong. You only have to stand & watch a police road block way way more foreigners are pulled over than the 20, 30 times more thais on the road that are just waved through with the odd one being stopped. Report about this unequal situation 'The Thaiger'.

The truth to tell .... That  tin pot probably offers more protection than the plastic skid lids I see people wearing
