  • Good intentions but the ceasefire holding is a long shot as it was originally. Of course this thread will rapidly descend into anti-Trump rants.

No anti Trump rant from me,

Hopefully FIFA don’t withdraw their heavily coveted peace price either.

Well Anutin said "Push off" and the Hun wants satellite data to determine who was the last one to fire first...

I am going to apply for the Nobel.

Surin 15k from the front... A strangely low number of casualties compared to the amount of booms we get here. Ok divide by two for heavy artillery, but this doesn't apply to mortars and BM.21.

Someone rumoured the Thailand-Cambodia tension was making the Trat islands (Koh Chang, Koh Kood) less fully booked than on previous years. Is there any truth in this?

YES, absolutely.

The Centara Hotel on the mainland has been closed since December 8th (Monday) and while it is obviously much closer to the border than Koh Chang and Koh Kood are, both are accessible only by passing through areas relatively close to the border in Chanthaburi and mainland Trat. Many people are worried, also because both islands are well within the 50km aerial radius of the border, especially Koh Kood.

Didn't Mr.BIG order the Thai military to not back down at the border and that if any government official interferes they will be "severely punished"?.......The Orange-Man didn't get the memo that there is a greater power in Thai-Town that will trump all directives he brokers.

It feels like a joke to claim Trump had anything to do with ceasefires anywhere.

He lives to set fires. He doesn't put them out!

They are still firing artillery where I am and have done so since 6 am.

Probably celebratory fireworks honouring the great Donald Trump. Cambodians and Thais love him alike.

Cambodia has already stated that they did not agree to trumps suggestions or claims during the "phone call" and were not ready to attend another "peace deal renegotiation"

he's so obsessed with the Nobel prize that he say/do anything to convince himself that ALL of his so called peace deals are up in flames, not one is withstanding

Interesting that Trump's social media message refers to 'Anutin and Hun', i.e. using a given name for one and the family name for the other, or is that deliberate ...

So a "dirty Farang" told Anutin to go back to his room and behave while the latter decided to sneak out of the tremendous mess the political playroom presents itself for the time being. A huge kindergarten on both sides of the border, possibly overdue to clean up Hun's fingerprints literally anywhere in Cambodia.

I don't understand this.

How does the border ambiguity affect maritime lines?

Isn't this an inland border?

Trat has a navy base as does Koh Chang.

Point 1 - no one cares what Trump thinks, if he can actually think rationally.

Point 2 - Thai and Cambodian political leaders, senior military officers and ultra-nationalists will "milk" this conflict for as much as possible for as long as possible, as long as they continue to gain "benefit" from the conflict.

Point 3 - the economies in both countries are relatively stagnant and facing significant headwinds in 2026 and beyond.

Point 4 - the Prime Ministers of both countries are widely disliked and are seeking to deflect public attention away from their incompetence, especially the "floods will be gone in December" Prime Minister.

Point 5 - both countries are internationally "on the nose" for their widespread corruption and scams.

Trump is being played just like Putin does, Thailand won't do what he wants and neither will Cambodia, they are both not going to give up I meter of land.... :coffee1:

I was on line looking at hotels in Koh Chang a couple days ago and the prices in Feb before Chinese New Year were outrageous for nicer places. Higher than I've ever seen.

 Possibly. For reference (google)

Yes, the islands of Koh Chang and Koh Kood are technically affected by the recent Thai-Cambodian border conflict, as major governments advise against travel within 50km of the border, which includes these islands; however, the islands themselves aren't in direct combat zones, leading to conflicting reports, with locals saying they are safe but tourist cancellations happening due to insurance fears and travel advisories.

UPDATE
Thai Military Rejects Trump Claim on Mine Incident

Thailand’s military has rejected comments by US President Donald Trump describing a fatal landmine incident involving Thai soldiers as an accident, insisting the act was deliberate and that Thailand’s response has been proportionate. The clarification was issued amid ongoing tensions along the Thai–Cambodian border, where security incidents have heightened concern among authorities and the public.

On Saturday, 13 December 2025, the Joint Information Centre on the Thai–Cambodian border situation held a live press briefing broadcast on social media via the NBT Connext Facebook page. Rear Admiral Surasant Kongsiri, Defence Ministry spokesperson, addressed questions from journalists regarding recent developments, including remarks made by President Trump following talks with Mr Anutin Charnvirakul, former Prime Minister of Thailand.

President Trump had posted on his Truth Social platform that the death of a Thai soldier who stepped on a landmine was merely an “accident”, while stating that Thailand had “retaliated strongly”. The comment drew attention both domestically and internationally, prompting a formal response from Thai military representatives.

Rear Admiral Surasant stated that stepping on a landmine could not be considered an accident, emphasising that landmines are weapons intentionally placed to cause harm. He said the mine had been deliberately planted in an area where Thai soldiers routinely conduct patrols, demonstrating intent to inflict lethal damage. According to him, such actions were aimed at creating instability and provoking Thai forces, reflecting a pattern of deliberate provocation by the Cambodian side.

Air Chief Marshal Chakrit Thammavichai, spokesperson for the Royal Thai Air Force, provided further clarification on Thailand’s military response. He referred to President Trump’s use of the word “retaliated”, explaining that Thailand’s actions were conducted strictly on the basis of self-defence. He stressed that the military had used force only as necessary and in proportion to the level of threat faced.

Air Chief Marshal Chakrit added that the Thai armed forces had taken care to minimise the impact on civilians not involved in the conflict. He said this was reflected in the careful selection of targets and the types of weapons deployed, with efforts made across all sectors to reduce collateral damage and civilian risk.

Naewna reported that Thai authorities indicated that further briefings would be provided as the situation develops, with continued emphasis on national security, proportional response, and protection of civilians along the border areas.

Key Takeaways

• Thailand’s military rejected claims that a fatal landmine incident was an accident, calling it deliberate.

• Officials said Thailand’s response was based on self-defence and proportional use of force.

• The clarification followed comments by US President Donald Trump on the Thai–Cambodian border situation.

When someone lies so often and so consistently it gets to the point where their word means nothing anymore. Trump will do or say anything to score immediate points and the man has a completely bizarre relationship with truth and reality.

Fighting between Thai and Cambodian forces continued early on Saturday hours after US President Donald Trump said the two countries had agreed to a ceasefire.

Thai prime minister Anutin Charnvirakul said he told the US president a ceasefire would only be possible after Cambodia had withdrawn all its forces and removed landmines.

"Thailand will continue to perform military actions until we feel no more harm and threats to our land and people. I want to make it clear. Our actions this morning already spoke," he said on social media.

Shelling continued overnight, as Thai forces push to take a number of vantage points along the border. At least 21 people have died in the renewed fighting and 700,000 have been evacuated on both sides.

All the Thais needed was something minor (I know a soldier was killed but in the grand scheme of things) to start things off again. Good news for Anutin who's "coincidentally" dissolved parliament and brought the elections forward just after this kicked off. Nothing like stirring up nationalism for some votes. As for accident or deliberate mines are laid for a reason. Looks like the mine sweeping missed one.
