An Army helicopter was forced to make an emergency landing at Surin Phakdi Airport on 22 December 2025, injuring four crew members and briefly causing a small fire on landing. The aircraft, a Bell 212 (H.T.212) operated by the Royal Thai Army, struck the ground heavily while attempting to descend, prompting an immediate emergency response. All injured personnel were taken to hospital and authorities said there was no risk to the public.

The incident occurred at approximately 17.19 when the helicopter experienced a loss of stability and suffered control problems during it mission and made an emergency descent at Surin Phakdi Airport in Surin province. On impact, a small fire broke out around the aircraft, but emergency teams extinguished the flames quickly. The helicopter was conducting routine operations at the time, and the landing area was secured immediately after the incident.

Four crew members were injured, comprising two pilots and two mechanics. The pilot, Major Suchat Nakcharoen, sustained a right foot injury from the impact, with no fractures found. Co-pilot Lieutenant Arin Ananyutthasakul suffered minor injuries.

The two mechanics were Sergeant Major Kittipong Chimthai, who injured his right ankle and was undergoing further medical assessment amid concerns of a possible fracture and Sergeant Ekarin Jitrit, who sustained minor injuries to his right ankle. All four were transferred to Weerawat Yothin Military Camp Hospital for treatment. Medical staff confirmed that their overall condition was stable and they remain under close observation.

At 18.30, the Second Army Region issued an official statement confirming the emergency landing and the injuries sustained by personnel on board. The statement said the situation was brought under control immediately and stressed that there was no impact on public safety in the surrounding area. Army officials reiterated that the welfare and safety of personnel remain their highest priority.

The army also confirmed that the cause of the incident is under investigation. A designated committee has been appointed to examine the circumstances in accordance with Royal Thai Army regulations and procedures. Officials said the inquiry aims to establish accurate, comprehensive, and fair findings in all aspects of the incident.

Daily News reported that further updates will be released once the investigation is complete. The Second Army Region said it would provide additional information as soon as verified details become available. In the meantime, the injured personnel continue to receive medical care while the helicopter remains on the runway, pending inspection.

i dont think that they have many helicopters left ?????

This is like the 2nd one this year to crash die to mechanical failure. Kind of makes you wonder how qualified the maintenance personnel are for the aircraft or if there is a scandal occuring that move the funds for maintenance to some individual.

At least 27-years, could be 50+.

Those soldiers are lucky to be alive.

Not an "emergency landing" it crashed!

Is China offering a better deal on choppers than it did on subs

Maybe a trade in plan for slightly abused aircraft :whistling:

Definite LTE (loss of tail rotor effectiveness) ... at least, definite LTE after the tail rotor was broken off the aircraft at the end of the 'landing'.

Helicopter parts are highly stressed. May be pushing service intervals or parts beyond their service life.
