December 23, 2025Dec 23 Christmas in Thailand feels different for many expats. After a few years here, some traditions start to slip. Others double down and keep everything exactly as it was back home. Do you still put up a tree? Cook the same food? Mark the day at all? For some, Christmas in Thailand loses its edge. The weather is wrong. The buildup is quiet. Family is far away. It turns into just another day, maybe a decent meal and a message or two. For others, Christmas in Thailand matters even more. Traditions become anchors. Familiar food, old music, fixed routines. A way to hold on to memories and mark time. So where are you now? Letting old habits fade without regret? Picking and choosing what still matters? Or sticking to tradition no matter how long you stay? Has living here changed how you see Christmas in Thailand? Or does it still mean exactly what it always did? Curious how others handle it.
December 23, 2025Dec 23 Popular Post I'm a little on the portly side so I get to play Santa at my school. I buy boxes of toys and candy canes for my students. All the fuss and muss is taken care of there and my apartment stays clean and normal.
December 23, 2025Dec 23 Do you still put up a tree? Cook the same food? Mark the day at all? No ... no ... no, and wasn't much of a fan of holidays when living in the USA. When employed, worked as many as I could, for the 1.5 or 2.5X pay upgrade. I didn't make EggNog 2X recently, but that's about it. Also made it, when not near the holidays, if having excess heavy cream and no plans for it.
December 23, 2025Dec 23 Popular Post I was just checking my bank account. It looks like people will be getting the thought that counts from me this year. 🙂
December 23, 2025Dec 23 Popular Post My housekeeper lady asked me why I don't have Xmas decorations up like the other f-rangs. I told her because I don't celebrate that holiday. She thinks I'm Muslim.
December 23, 2025Dec 23 since i went out on gogo drinking beer every day, -every day was christmas. merry christmas to y'all
December 23, 2025Dec 23 Popular Post We put up a tree although the other lighting gets less each year, mainly coz the lights fail, but mostly coz I really don't do climbing ladders now (that's my story and I'm sticking to it!). We do hold a family / village mega-party on the closest Sunday to the 25th, loads of food, alcohol, playing in the pool (mostly the kids and our 2m crocodile), stacks of general fun. The local fuzz often turn up to "raid" the party, 3 to a bike, armed to the teeth of course. They insist on sampling the food but we never see them drink (cans do seem to mysteriously get emptied mind). We also have a prezzie draw, all guests bring something (we top up the gifts from the really poor families with $$$) so everyone goes away with a prezzie of some sort. December 23, 2025Dec 23 Popular Post We remember Christmas as a celebration of God fulfilling His promise of a Messiah. We'll read Matthew 1:18-25 and consider what happened on that day. Realizing the awesomeness of God. That's our Christmas spirit.

But it was the cat that done it ... Our two chihuahuas are just happy to get loads of doggie treats and anything else edible. They're usually too full to move by the end of the day. Perhaps you were Lost in Space?🙃🙃 My thinking was, example, work Thanksgiving Thurs / Fri at 2.5, then take next week, or another off (5 days+4), and give myself a nine day holiday, without losing any income. Plus the flights would be open, (airline employee) as holidayers done. Not having kids, being Atheist, holidays are meaningless, and can party with friends & family anytime. 2.5X salary work day, only comes about 10 times a year.
December 23, 2025Dec 23 A classic, I make no excuses whatever for posting it: - "Please accept with no obligation, implied or implicit, my best wishes for an environmentally conscious, socially responsible, low-stress, non-addictive, gender-neutral celebration of the winter solstice holiday, practiced within the most enjoyable traditions of the religious persuasion of your choice, or secular practices of your choice, with respect for the religious/secular persuasion and/or traditions of others, or their choice not to practice religious or secular traditions at all. December 23, 2025Dec 23 When I first landed here, 9 years ago, I bought some lights and decorated a small potted tree outside on the porch that roughly resembled a Xmas tree. After a couple of years of this the tree got moved as it was looking a little threadbare so the lights would then adorn the porch in a somewhat festive fashion over the period. That lasted about 3 years then the lights preferred to stay in one large knot in their plastic bag in the wardrobe, who am I to deprive them their wish 😀 I feel the longer i stay here my grinchiness ascending ever more rapidly and to cap it all my 3 Thai neighbours over the soi all have decorations up !!
December 23, 2025Dec 23 Yes, I celebrate Christmas with a tree, presents, great food and friends, worship and a prayer for President Trump.
December 23, 2025Dec 23 No, and I don't miss it, pain in the butt, also, don't go out on New Years Eve. Happy as Larry, whoever Larry was.
December 23, 2025Dec 23 I will be working over Christmas like I have done for every Xmas for the past 20 years, the wife has a small holding rearing some cattle. They want feeding and looking after as per any other day. Last Christmas I worked in the Uk I was milking a herd of cow just finishing off morning milking, I noticed a heifer calving, thought soon get this done .........no, long story short, had to get the vet in to do a C -Section , first in about a year ,a quick Christmas lunch with some neighbor's, then back to do the afternoon milking.

December 23, 2025Dec 23 We're in Texas this year & will be celebrating with family here.....They do it up big with family gatherings, passing presents from the tree, food, and football.... I'm sure our Daughters in CM will not make anything special of the day.... I'm usually the one that gets all the decorations out to get everybody started..... They'll get a bunch of stuff when we get back home.....

December 24, 2025Dec 24 Stopped "celebrating" Christmas 55 years ago when I left the Catholic Church.

December 24, 2025Dec 24 Until last year, I used to put up a Christmas tree with decs. and lights, at Mrs.L's request. This year, our elderly and unwell cat's decided that small table's her favourite place to sleep during the day so I've now got an excuse not to do it. Also, 25th. December is the day to go to KK Immigration to get the renewal stamp for my marriage extension after the 'under consideration' period. I've never been a fan of Christmas so all that suits me just fine. But we'll go to see my wife's brother for lunch after Immigration - that's usually a fun time.
December 24, 2025Dec 24 Christmas is a time for giving.............Not in my house,..... My Thai Mrs, is a taker, not a giver, tight git, so i cancel Christmas
December 24, 2025Dec 24 I turned our Xmass lights on Saturday night. No installation required, I just leave them hanging under the patio roof all year. Gives me more drinking time
