Interestingly because of Venezuela's natural resources it once had one of the best GDP's in the world. Now it lags behind Haiti. Maybe, just maybe what Trump has done is a good thing. Not many in Venezuela will be shedding tears that's for sure. Let's hope the country can get back on it's feet.

That was in the 70s. Before Chavez election, Venezuela was in economic freefall. That's why he was elected.

Of course, as every other 'Socialist' regime, the Bolivarian regime ultimately made things worse.

Yikes. Another bizarre rant from the clown.

President Donald Trump threatened that Venezuelan Vice President Delcy Rodriguez will “pay a very big price” if she doesn’t “do what’s right” and cooperate with U.S. intervention into the country following the attack and capture of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro.

Trump told The Atlantic on Sunday that Rodriguez could face a fate similar to Maduro, who is being detained in federal prison in New York on narcoterrorism and drug trafficking charges, if she doesn’t align with U.S. interests.

“If she doesn’t do what’s right, she is going to pay a very big price, probably bigger than Maduro,” Trump said.

The comment marks a stark reversal from Trump’s praise of Rodriguez in a press conference Saturday following the attack. The president said U.S. officials had spoken with Rodriguez, and reported that “she’s essentially willing to do what we think is necessary to make Venezuela great again.”

Throughout Saturday’s press conference, Trump said that U.S. officials would “run” Venezuela until a democratic transition of power can be achieved. The president declined to offer a timeline on when that may occur.

Shortly after Trump’s press conference, Rodriguez — a hand-picked Maduro ally — insisted that Maduro remains at the head of Venezuela’s government despite his capture, called the U.S. intervention into the country “an atrocity that violates international law,” and said Venezuela is “ready to defend our natural resources.”

We know that for narcotics, it's easier to start at the other end, that's why every administration has been going at it from that end for the last fifty years. Bombing boats out of the water and taking dictators into custody sends a pretty clear message. Handing out free needles and crack-kits? Not do much.

Had Obama or Biden done this, they'd have gotten a parade.

Do you really think having Mr/Mrs A or X or Z as the leader of Colombia will make a difference in the flow of narcotics from South America to the US and Europe ? Cartel people are now probably laughing all this off as just a temporary distraction to them.

Edit function hasn't worked for some reason. I meant to write 'leader of Venezuela' of course. Well, actually, the same thing is also valid for whoever the leader of Colombia is :)

I think the effort to stop the flow of drugs overall, border tightening and hitting them in Venezuela, will have an effect on the import of Cocaine into the USA. Lasting impact? Meh I don't know. It probably drives up the price on the street for now and maybe a few people don't start. Who knows. And if the next president is like Biden with a wide open border nothing will have changed.

As to fentanyl that is a greater problem and I don't know if this has any impact.

A post with just a link in it has been removed, please remember to put some text in your post then your link, thank you

This may be why there are suddenly seeming to be more boats making the journey carrying drugs. The border is basically closed, which means no drug mules can cross. Ditto any tunnels dug previously. So boat becomes one of the few available options.

You are right that stopping the flow of drugs has no lasting impact. In fact I see that as an excuse for not doing enough internally to stop the demand. It is an abidication of duty by ths administration to address the drug problem in USA. Significant cuts to federal funds for addiction treatment, overdose prevention, research programs, dismantling agencies like de-staffing of the Substance Abuse & Mental Health Services and diverting resources by DOJ and FBI on drug related cases to work on the Epstein files. Trump is making excuse for his failing policies.

You mean the same "addiction treatment, overdose prevention, research program" policies that have been failing for over fifty years, yes? The left's solution is always the same, just throw more money at leftist NGOs.

There are communities in the US that spend over 90% of their emergency services on overdoes treatment.

You reading from a Maga script. Programs like the overdoes prevention brought about reduction in overall overdose deaths. With these programs defunded due to Trump's reckless cuts to federal fundings so he can implement tax cuts for the wealthy and corporations, might see a reversal of overdose deaths.

Yes, throwing money at opioid overdose reversal medications and emergency services does reduce the number of overdoses that result in death, but it does not reduce the number of people overdosing and or using drugs, if anything, it facilitates it.

Who's reading from a script?

In any event, the number of overdose related deaths seems to be increasing.

CDC report say otherwise. The sad part is that overdose deaths increase this year. Guess you already know why.

So you didn't read the link I provided containing the CDC's release that overdose deaths down by 27% from 2023. Shoulkd learn how to read before making any comment. Try it.

There seems....suddenly more boats

Drug mules...(drug is usually trafficked throught legal port of entries)

Any source about these assertions or are they made up?
