Starmer's 'shameful and reckless' Venezuela statement

Featured Replies

Keir Starmer is in hot water as Labour MPs lash out at his "shameful and reckless" statement regarding Venezuela! He failed to mention Trump post-Caracas raid, sparking uproar within his own party. Starmer’s response wasn’t just tardy—it missed the critical points, say critics.

The Prime Minister expressed no regret over Maduro's ousting, labeling Venezuelan leadership "illegitimate." While pledging support for international law, he sidestepped a direct condemnation of Trump's aggressive move. This has ignited a civil war within Labour, with figures like Richard Burgon demanding decisive action.

Political fireworks are set off as Sir Ed Davey and Zack Polanski join the chorus, pushing Starmer to denounce Trump’s audacious strike. Liberals and Greens warn this sets a dangerous precedent, potentially unleashing global lawlessness. The diplomatic dance is a powder keg ready to explode, with party leaders clashing over international norms.

MPs, including Jon Trickett and Kim Johnson, echo the demand for Starmer to stand up against what they call "gangster politics." Online, Jon Trickett highlighted the defiance from Venezuela’s Defence Minister, fueling the debate. Starmer’s cautious diplomacy is under attack from all sides, leaving his leadership in turbulent waters.

Outside Parliament, calls for action grow louder. Sir Ed Davey argues that standing for international law means condemning all unlawful acts, be they from Trump or Putin. Such sentiments are echoed with concerns about the message of impunity this raid may send worldwide.

As echoes of the raid reverberate, the political stakes intensify. Can Starmer navigate this storm without fracturing Labour or straining international alliances? The world watches as this high-stakes political drama unfolds.

Key Takeaways

  • Backlash erupts: Starmer’s statement leaves Labour fuming!

  • Critics unite: Calls grow for Starmer to condemn Trump’s bold play!

  • Global chaos looms: Fears rise of unchecked international aggression!

I wish Trump would do the same to Starmer. The UK would be a better place without the twit.

I was just thinking the same. After hearing more Brits are banged up for political/ non PC tweets than Russians, they are probably hoping Trump captures their sir kier and chucks him on a rendition flight to Gitmo.

Free Britain Next!!

For your information, I can't stand Keir Starmer or much of his government either but he is legitimate and elected!

Perhaps the RAF should bomb "Gitmo" - seems to be the favoured way of dealing with an institution which one doesn't like.

Oh, we cannot, that would be an attack upon a sovereign country...

Yet the left are A OK with blasting long range missiles into Russia, directed by shady bases in the UK and US. Not much point fretting over Castro getting his knickers in a twist when you are provoking mutually assured destruction, is there?

Does the RAF have the capability to bomb Gitimo?

Ukraine is allowed to blast missiles into Russia.

Yes no doubt. But not when they are uber high tech UK or US missiles launched remotely from bases in those countries and just pretending its Ukraine doing it - as had been happening.

That is provokation and very stupid for obvious reasons

How would spouting left wing woke rhetoric about the US action to remove a dictator and control oil supply help the UK?

For once Starmer has done the right thing for the UK .... a first for him, but credit where credit is due.

Yes. Looks like you missed the big news because of the excitement over Maduro. British and French aircraft carried out a joint strike on a fortified ISIL underground facility in Syria. Guided bombs were launched by RAF Typhoon FGR4 combat jets.

If I was running the show, I’d give Ukraine the means to wreck the Russian power grid.

To which Russia would have no choice but to reciprocate and take out the US grid and power stations, and then the US would respond and within hours nukes would be flying around, which suits nobody.

Just saying Id blow up Russian xyz is simplistic and unrealistic. If they didnt have a bazziliion nukes it would be a different game entirely

There is no doubt a long list of Third World countries whose guvamints have been overturned by the Western 'Great Powers' - Usofa, UK, France - for reasons good, bad & indifferent over the last 80 years.

I suspect overturning the Maduro corrupt & drug peddling régime would rate amongst the higher-quality examples, particularly as the result was achieved without bloodshed, the victim being someone long since found guilty of assorted real crimes by the US Federal Courts, and large numbers of Venezuelan citizens cheering the result.

It remains to be seen how this particular Trumpian adventure finishes up but jumping to judgment just because the author of the coup is one of humanity's more ghastly creatures is not entirely rational.

Russia would do nothing of the sort. They are a paper tiger.

Shady bases in the UK? Hmm, any evidence or is it your fevered imagination in the realm of "everyone knows"?

Perhaps arrange for a swap: kidnap Wankeir and install Maduro in Number 10. Maduro would be more popular, of that I'm sure.

You forgot your meds today.

Starmer is terrified of Trump.

He knows a real man when he sees one and puts his tail between his legs like a sick cur.

A pathetic specimen.

I think we can easily say that Starmer (at least since several months ago) has been one of the least-liked British prime ministers.

ok Im sure you're right. These incredible high tech weapons are probably launched and controlled by some Ukrainian neo nazi with an RC controller and twitchers binos.

Jeez😅

I think Trump just did more damage with the potential disruption of oil prices that is going to hurt Russia where it matters.🙂. This may force Putin to consider a peace agreement now.

I'm not seeing a difference between Trump & Putin right now.

Starmer and the UK are in a weak position reliant upon the largesse of Trump.

You supported the BREXIT that put the UK under Washington’s thumb.

Well done Jonny, you got your sovereignty back in the form of the UK a vassal to the U.S.

You’ll find warnings of this result filed under ‘Project Fear’.

Even if that were true, which it isn't, I'd far rather be under Washington's thumb than lorded over by unelected EU technocrats.
