Iran Collapse Under Trump? The New "Maximum Pressure" Strategy

As Donald Trump prepares for his second term, the geopolitical landscape of the Middle East faces a dramatic shift. The central question for diplomats and economists alike is whether the Islamic Republic of Iran can survive a renewed "Maximum Pressure" campaign.

During his first term, Trump dismantled the 2015 nuclear deal and imposed crippling sanctions. However, experts suggest the second iteration will be even more intense. A key signal of this hardline approach is the appointment of Marco Rubio as Secretary of State. Rubio, a long-standing hawk on Tehran, has consistently advocated for total economic isolation of the regime to prevent it from funding regional proxies.

A primary driver of this strategy is the unwavering support for Israel. The Trump administration is expected to give Israel significantly more latitude to dismantle Iran’s "Ring of Fire"—the network of militant groups like Hezbollah and Hamas. By neutralizing these proxies, the U.S. and Israel aim to leave the Iranian leadership vulnerable and without its traditional "forward defense" layers.

Domestically, the Iranian government is already on shaky ground. Following the "Woman, Life, Freedom" protests and a crumbling economy, the regime faces a massive legitimacy crisis. If the U.S. successfully chokes off Iran’s remaining oil exports—largely destined for China—the resulting hyperinflation could trigger a level of civil unrest that the Islamic Republic cannot suppress.

While some analysts believe the regime is "coup-proof" due to the power of the Revolutionary Guard, the combination of external military pressure from Israel and internal economic collapse creates a "Venezuela scenario." In this outlook, Iran doesn't just change its behavior; it faces a fundamental struggle for survival.

Key Takeaways

Aggressive Diplomacy: The appointment of Marco Rubio signals a return to "Maximum Pressure," aiming to bankrupt the Iranian regime through strict sanction enforcement.

Strengthened Alliances: The U.S. is likely to provide expanded support for Israel’s operations to dismantle Iran-backed militant groups across the region.

Internal Vulnerability: Economic isolation, combined with existing domestic dissent, may push the Islamic Republic toward a total systemic collapse similar to Venezuela.

It would be nice to see the ‘revolutionary guard’ (😴) flattened and that utter mouthy prck at the silenced, but needs to be done from the inside. Having Israel involved is far from ideal plus the generous countries will of course be flooded with Iranian refugees.

Venezuela has lots of oil.

Greenland has lots of minerals.

What has Iran got to do with the USA?

Ah, maybe the Israel lobby, that run the country.

I doubt Trump will go through with it as apparently Iran has already cleared airspace corridors for their missiles to pass through to Israel.

Simply astounding the lack of interest in this, which should be the number 1 story internationally. This time, the mullahs are on the brink of being overthrown. Iran's justice minister has said all protestors could be charged with being "enemies of god," which carries the death penalty. And relatively few people or organizations seem to care.

What military options does Trump have?

According to AI-

  • Targeted Airstrikes: Trump has been briefed by Pentagon officials on options for limited, precision strikes against Iranian security services if the regime continues to use lethal force. Potential targets include military command centers and security sites within Tehran.

Asymmetric Warfare: Options under consideration include cyberattacks to disable surveillance systems and covert operations to disrupt the regime’s ability to communicate or organize crackdowns.

2. Technological and Internet Support

  • Satellite Internet: Analysts and advocates have urged the administration to facilitate broader access to Starlink satellite internet to bypass the regime's total internet blackout. ( though Iranians themselves warned this could be dangerous if the regime can trace users of Starlink).

  • Secure Communications: The administration is exploring projects to provide secure VPNs and encrypted tools to help protesters organize safely while evading state monitoring.

Are you denying the lobby has no influence on US middle east policy?

Don't you think that its a good thing that the war mongering , terrorist sponsoring oppressive Iranian regime is being removed ?

Shouldn't Jews be applauded for this ?

I'd be much happier if the war mongering , terrorist sponsoring oppressive US regime is removed.

You would support Iran if Iran had a war with the USA ?

I wouldn't support either side.

I would support Canada if Trump tried to make it 51st state

I'd support Denmark and NATO if Trump tried to take over Greenland

I'd support Colombia if Trump tried to take over

Same goes for Mexico

I'd support Taiwan if invaded

I Ukraine, something Trump is highly averse to unless backed into a corner

Not necessarily. My issues are with the current fascist, war mongering, terrorist sponsoring US regime.

And if there's a war between US and Iran, for sure the US would be the aggressor.

Nice work Eagle eyes😉

"As Donald Trump prepares for his second term. . ." . Don't you editors even read what you publish? I know it's all mostly AI but, still, there should be someone taking a look at what goes out.

He talks tough about Iran , but so did Bush and how did that work out for yanks? A massive cluster phuk. You’re supposed to learn from history but seeing as trump doesn’t read, is intellectually challenged and has the attention span of a 5 year old you can already predict the outcome should he decide to get involved, and probably more than likely coerced into it by his buddy netanyahu, because like all the others, he’s well aware of which strings to pull to get him to do what he wants him to.

I hope it works, but the current regime doesn't seem to be ready to leave power. From what I heard, they may have killed 2,000 people already.

So how are the CIA units of the foreign social unrest teams, doing in Teheran ? Not bad a job I guess in pushing the locals to the streets and risking their lives.

The entire world knows that when social unrest gets to a weak nation, it's very often another bigger nation in the wings, pulling the strings, funding and manipulation their masses.
