Non O Thai Child Visa Extension Monthly Income & Bangkok Bank

Featured Replies

Hi Posting this in Chiang Man as IO policy seems like it varies and hoping I might get some local intel, ahead of the trip, but general questions, too.

I was thinking of switching to monthly income for the financial requirements of Thai Child Non O Ext. Any one done this? Couple of questions if anyone has any experience?

To make the switch from a 400k deposit year to a monthly income year the first time around, do you have a to pay in exactly 40k each and every month or do they average over the year? (Effectively you double the minimum deposits in the transition year either way)

I.e

In the previous year you will have deposited 400k in say January and then you must start monthly deposits in Feb? Vs do they make an calaulation/average over the year ?

Assuming monthly income is OK will a bank certify to that effect similar to but rather than a certification of 400k on deposit?

I’m with Bangkok Bank… I could deposit up to the 400k in order to be extra safe. But they may freeze the funds if nit deposited in time according to their current policy? I would request a monthly income certification, if that’s a thing, but possibly still a risk?

To avoid losing access to funds, If I opened a new none BKK bank account does the NEW bank account also need to be two months old like it needed to be first time around? Or just show the old bank book to prove I did it already?

Any info/experiences appreciated. Thanks

While there are published rules regarding the minimum 40K per month income visa extension method, you should try to make your position 'bullet proof', i.e. make sure that you deposit at least 40K every month without fail. As you are just starting this, have 400K in the account at least 2 months before applying. It has to be in one account - don't involve a different account that doesn't completely meet the rules.

As you are banking with Bangkok Bank, they have applied stricter rules, i.e. in order to receive a letter to Immigration regarding your account there must be a minimum of 400K for 4 months, which they will then freeze for 5 months thereafter.

A friend uses the income method and has had difficulties with IOs when relying on the averaging and even different monthly dates of transfers in CM. He even had Bangkok Bank employees telling him his funds up to 400K would be frozen......

I would suggest that if you want to open another account for this, don't use Bangkok Bank.

deposit at least 40k each month, not less, no averaging

does not have to be exactly 40k, but at least 40

deposit about the same time each month

Ok thanks makes sense agree. To be bulletproof you need to adhere to monthly annual and Bangkok bank policies. Pretty significant transition when you consider all of it.

With BKK, realistically, it’s accepting that maintain 400k at all times (800 for retirement) by the sounds of it.

I guess you tell them you need to demonstrate monthly income and that the total in the day is immaterial just need a statement that it is a true reflection of the account. See what a branch says.

(Time a move to eg KBank if you want to use any of the deposit in the future). No alignment with purpose if immigration policy but here we are.

I wonder if Bangkok Bank would give me a credit card if they froze the funds. At least you could have access to the level of funds mandated by Immigration. Bit crazy but being a bank possibly they would…Or at least some kind of interest on what is really a COD?!

To confirm, Bangkok Bank freeze the first 400K. You can obviously still use the amount above, which is what I am doing.

In the case of Bangkok Bank the required annual statement for the income method takes at least a week to produce.

Thanks I will expect the worst and see what happens… Not seen as much feedback from BKB customers on this issue as I expected since it was announced but maybe it’s old news.

Yes a full year statement is a special order. On to it.
