Three members of the same family were killed when a Toyota Fortuner SUV collided with a motorcycle at a busy four-way junction in Pathum Thani on 11 January 2026. The crash occurred at about 11.05am beneath the Wat Ratsadon Sattratham intersection on Ratchaphruek Road, Highway 3021, which links to Kanchanaphisek Road, Highway 9, in Bang Duea subdistrict. All three victims died at the scene from severe injuries.

Police from Mueang Pathum Thani Station responded alongside forensic doctors from the Central Institute of Forensic Science and rescue workers from the Poh Teck Tung Foundation. The motorcycle, a red-grey Yamaha Smash with Pathum Thani registration, was extensively damaged. The SUV involved, a white Toyota Fortuner with Bangkok registration, sustained front-end damage.

The deceased were identified as Mrs Kankera, 59, Ms Urai, 58, and a seven-year-old girl identified only as “W”,  to protect her identity. The driver of the Fortuner, Mr Sorakrit, 36, was taken into custody for questioning at Mueang Pathum Thani Police Station. Police confirmed that an alcohol breath test on the driver returned a zero reading.

According to Ms Somtrong, 70, the elder sister of Ms Urai, the victims had just returned from voting in the Bang Luang subdistrict administrative organisation election. After eating noodles, they were travelling home, which was not far from the crash site. Their journey ended at the junction shortly before midday.

Witnesses at the scene said the intersection is notorious for frequent crashes. They reported hearing a loud impact before discovering the three victims had died instantly. The Fortuner driver told police he was following GPS navigation while driving back to his home province of Saraburi.

Police are reviewing CCTV footage that captured the violent collision in the middle of the junction. The bodies of the three victims were sent to the Central Institute of Forensic Science under the Ministry of Justice for post-mortem examinations. Authorities said the families would later collect the bodies for religious rites.

SiamNews reported that investigators said legal proceedings would continue against the SUV driver in accordance with the law. Further findings will depend on the ongoing examination of evidence, including vehicle data and CCTV analysis, as police work to confirm responsibility for the crash.

SUV driver missed the white line then.

  • From CCTV it looks like there is a stop-line on the road where the high speed SUV comes.

  • High probability the driver wouldn't know what the White Line was there for.

According to the CCTV, it looks like the person driving the motorbike is not looking at all. At the same time the driver of the SUV is clearly speeding.

If the SUV driver was using sat nav guess doesn't know the area - the white line (stop?) can barely be seen especially if travelling at speed - didn't see a stop sign in the video

Can't be that difficult to install traffic lights there & stop the accidents

RIP scooter people

I’ve seen footage from another angle and there is a stop sign.

You can see the stop sign, the back of it, in the second photo.

But I have to say that I see stop signs all over the place that nobody pays attention too. You can't assume someone is going to stop at a stop sign. You always need to be vigilant here.

The SUV was flying, if the driver was really following a navigation system then why was he going so fast? When I am using navigation I am always traveling at or under the speed limit because I am unfamiliar with the roads.

The big problem here is the road is too good. If you’re going to have good roads you need people to drive by the international road rules. A stop sign and the stop line are pointless in a country where no one respects the rules. Like the paint wasted on pedestrian crossings it’s all pointless. It will take a generation to change peoples habits and the Thai government needs to enforce all road rules. Start by putting speed humps before every stop line and pedestrian crossings across the country. Fine people for breaking the rules. My partner won’t drive in Australia because she’s worried about collecting someone on a crossing. I hate driving in a Thailand because it’s natural for me to stop at stop signs and crossings and never on a roundabout!

Speed humps are better. People will just run red light but slow down to not damage their car,

Yes, we can add that too.

Negative for alcohol but apparently ran a stop sign at high speed?

So tests for other substances needed? And check whether the SUV driver has a licence? And eyes and a brain?

I know it isn't going to happen, but this is gross negligence manslaughter. Admitting to using Sat Nav is admitting you don't know the area, driving at speed is the negligence (he must know he's driving a machine capable of killing). In a lot of countries this would be causing death by reckless driving (UK minimum 5 years in jail, US 3-15+ years, Oz 10+ years), where I live it's called causing death by furious driving (Hong Kong, 10 years).

But, TiT.

It's not ONLY a matter of substances but, as you rightly say at the end, of eyes and BRAIN!

The latter are ALWAYS missing...

A flashing amber (yellow) light at an intersection means proceed with caution, signaling you to slow down, be alert for cross-traffic and pedestrians, and yield to anyone with the right-of-way, but you are not required to stop

(And Pretty Inexpensive To Install)(?)

Every stop sign needs speed bumps high enough to make them stop. Stop or wreck your suspension. Stop signs in Thailand are ignored by most drivers. I stop and ey go round me and don't stop. You get dirty looks why did you stop you stupid farang.

What pickup ?

Wow! So so sad. Especially when it involved a 7 year old girl. At the speed the SUV was going and seeing the impact in the video it would have been a quick death. Bloody terrible and heart wrencing to watch.

You don’t put speed bumps on a major road like that…if one wants more than a stop sign then put a flashing red light to validate the stop sign…

Three people on a cycle is illegal

A speed hump will slow cars down. No one wants to damage their own car. There was a previous accident there damaging the guard rail. It’s obviously a problem intersection. No one stops at stop signs. A flashing light won’t make a cracker of difference to that. A speed hump will. We’re in a country where change needs to be forced.

Very ... very sad incident, especially for their family and friends.

Stop signs, never seen one driver voluntarily stop at a stop sign here in Thailand over the last 10 years, except when forced to when enter a roadway with heavy traffic, then they forced to sop as against normally entering it without stopping.

Flashing lights, do nothing .... I had my first accident in 50 years at a four-way intersection like this one in my area, I was one of many that had been in accidents there, and a number of deaths also occurred.

The local municipality constructed a center divider area of plastic road stakes with a flashing light at each end, made no difference, 99% of vehicles still speed on that road, many over 100 km/h

And don't get me ion to roundabouts here, these knuckleheads have no idea of roundabout right away.

The term "roundabout" is defined in Section 4(10) of the Road Traffic Act, B.E. 2522 (1979) as "the road where conveyances are required to drive around the traffic sign or anything built on the junction."

Additionally, Section 73 provides instructions for drivers approaching a roundabout:

  1. If traffic signals or signs are installed, drivers must follow them.

  2. If no signals or signs are present, drivers must give way to vehicles already in the roundabout, specifically those coming from their right side.

  3. Competent officials may give traffic signals for safety or convenience, which drivers must follow.

Of course, road rules here for most Thai drivers are more like guidelines, take them or leave them 555

I just treat Thai's like the ignorant and obstinate little children they are, they won't change.
