Marriage visa extension under consideration .

Featured Replies

Many years already I go 3-4 weeks before expiring on 26 February , for an extension of my marriage visa and after proceeding all the documents I got a stamp "under consideration" for 1 month (25 March) and then I go to the immigration office where they stamp my extension till 26 February next year .

This year I have to leave Thailand for surgery in my home country on March 16 , so during the "under consideration" period , and I don't know exactly when I can come back , estimated 3-4 months . In my I.O. in Nongkhai they say they can't stamp my extension before the under consideration period is finished or months later when I enter Thailand again with a re entry permit and they advise me to apply for a new marriage or retirement visa in my home country .

Has somebody some experience with this situation or some advice ?

Any reentry permit for under consideration period would expire on the return date for stamp. Meaning March 25

You will still be o/s.

You will need to start over.

Don't obtain reentry permit and when you exit Thailand your extension (approved) is done.

You can obtain a new Non O marriage eVisa in home country

Seems the 60 day extension to visit wife would not have been long enough. Messy to start over but doable

Good luck

Thanks.

I think I will apply for a non immigrant O retirement visa in my home country . I think I fulfill al the requirements .

I believe you could, if you have all the required financials in place, and are over 50 apply for a retirement yearly extension, which would start from the application date, not the expiry date of the old marriage extension

Very doubtful that he would have 800k seasoned for two months to change to based on retirement.

I am a bit out of touch with regulations since leaving Thailand a few years ago for a stay back in Europe. Now planning a return to my home in Thailand, together with my wife, Thai.

What are the requirements in obtaining either a marriage, or retirement, I am 72yo, visa through a Thai Embassy in the country I now reside, Portugal. Thank you.

Extension expires 26th Feb.
Departing 16th March for 3-4 months.
Apply for a 60 day extension from 26th Feb which will cover until you depart.

Obtain new Non O from the Thai Embassy in your home Country when your ready to return.

Did you marry in Thailand or Portugal originally?

Apply for the Non O from the Thai Embassy in Portugal based on retirement or Thai spouse to enter Thailand.
Proof of 800K THB for retirement, 400K for Thai spouse.

To extend your stay once in Thailand you'll need a Thai bank account in your sole name.
400/800K THB deposited in your Thai bank account for 2 months prior to the date of applying for 1 year extension.

As an alternative to obtaining a new non-O visa in your home country, you might, instead, wish to consider the option of converting a 60-day visa-exempt permission to stay upon your return to Thailand to a non-O visa at your local immigration office before then resuming annual extensions of stay. @johnnort - you might also wish to consider this option.

Not considered such good advice with the current situation and for the following reasons.

1. It means two physical visits to your local Immigration Office to obtain the Non O, when you could apply for the Non O online from the comfort of your chair before entering Thailand.

2. Unless you already have a Thai bank account, your not going to open one + the banks could close an existing account as you now have Tourist status.

3. If you have an existing account with Bangkok bank, that could also create issues.
