what happens next will depend on whether the spa pursues the matter through official channels.

This theft is a criminal matter and not a civil matter.
Once police are notified of the theft, they should conduct a criminal investigation regardless whether the alleged thief offers restitution or not. The police realistically considered possible criminal conspiracy beyond this spa theft that might involve other persons and other targets.

Officials noted that foreign nationals are subject to the same legal process as Thai citizens

So, its a month in the temple then?

Troll post removed.

Probably did it in the heat of moment

Regrets it after but the deed is done

no doubt he will receive a fine at worse deported

What a way to ruin your holiday

"No additional details were provided in the post regarding whether the cash was recovered."

Really? Being held by the police as eveidence, perhaps? 😉

Banning for life might be a good punishment he will remember for a long time. A few days in a Thailand detention center while awaiting deportation might be a good send off too.

What a completely bizarre thing to do, the guy must be quite a desperado. The way I look at it if you're going to be a thief, if you're going to break the law why not make sure there is a huge amount of money involved, and you're stealing money from a major corporation that is not going to be hurt by your actions.

You may very well be right. I hope he can hand the money back, pay some compensation and a fine and let him be on his way. This may be a cheap lesson for him. No need to destroy his life.

Another lefty apologist, this why the world is f****d too many stupid do gooders. 6 months jail time in Thailand will cure him.

A thief is a thief. No matter from where. And thieves come from all over, including western nations.

Not that I condone what he did, but how stupid is this loser. Ignoring the fact that most businesses have cctv cameras all over the place, to actually give his real name and then return to the shop the next day, he takes brainless to a whole new level, especially for Baht 2000

A week ago, at a restaurant I regularly frequent, a young man with a girl had dinner, and when it was time to pay the bill, they both disappeared.

A few days later, the young man (according to the owner, the same one mentioned in this conversation) showed up again, saying he'd done something stupid, that he regretted it and apologized, and that he wanted to pay the amount due.

Sincere remorse, or fear of further charges being filed against him (considering that this restaurant has CCTV ) ? 😀😀

I hope this person will be banned from returning to Thailand forever, maybe he will learn his lesson.

A high quality Western tourist. Of the type many posters on this forum have demanded more of, to "save" Thailand from Indians/ Chinese/ Russians.
