28th-29th January @ BITEC Bang Na, Bangkok - Free to attend

I hope to identify any new or interesting renewable technology available in Thailand and will share what I find here.

Anybody else going?

I am sure someone will say that it's a B2B event only but I have attended several times before and have successfully registered again this year, my job title is retired at retired.

In 2017 I was quoted ฿150,000 for a 5.6kWh Li Battery!

We are going, flight arrives 10am although I’ll be at the show on my own, staying overnight on the 28th at the Thomson Residence and flying back 29th afternoon.

Happy to meet up for dinner on 28th if you like, probably a restaurant in Mega Bangna.

That would be nice. I will DM you.

I don't fly internally in Thailand now that I have an EV. We are staying at the HOP INN in Bangna with lots of parking and only a few minutes walk to BITEC.

Just to meet up would have been nice but still completing our 3 phase 20kW solar installation.

Waiting on a replacement phase protector for the ATS.

Today changing the EV charger position and from single phase to 3 phase.

I will detail the installation in the Alternate Energy Forum when I finish.

I'm going today, I hope the Fahrenheit buffet is open, last time I was there it was not open.

They have recently installed a double Sigenstor stack for one of their customers.

I thought it was pretty disappointing.

It was certainly quite a bit smaller this year, not sure why.

And it did not seem very well attended. There seemed to be more people in the food court than walking the floor.

Could be the market is saturating, and the exhibiters did not see any real return last year.

We used to do the Bangkok RVAC show, and while I loved doing it, it was a big loser for us.

It was our first show. I was surprised at its size. But I found what I was looking for, an installer introduced by Bandersnatch at the show (thank you Paul) and 2 Chinese manufacturers of inverters and energy storage systems, these latter 2 I think will provide some competitive quotes.

Make sure that anything that you import to Thailand that requires some sort of testing/approval is quoted delivered duty paid (DDP), to your door.

If a product is not already approved for use in Thailand, you can get stung for the testing/approval fees which are not insignificant.

Good advice.

I imported three MUST hybrid inverters direct from the manufacturer in China DDP and they cost me roughly 50% of what they would’ve costed me on Lazada.

I really like the SigenStor setup, but the inverter size for single phase is limited to 12kW while it's 3 phase is 25kW.

The bi-directional charging needs to be confirmed for either my BYD Seal or BYD M6 EVs, will wait and see.

The price of high voltage stacking batteries systems seems to be over double what you pay for low voltage stand alone batteries.

This is my current setup

Main system:

20kW + 30kWh

It can't be expanded any further.

20260127_161209.jpg

Backup system:

Luxpower 10k + LVTopSun 10kWh

20260127_161238.jpg

I've been very happy with the Luxpower + LVTopSun

4x16kWh =64kWh

฿65Kx4 =฿260K

Screenshot_20260129_120132_Shopee.jpg

LVTopSun also do a high voltage stack but it's twice the price.

Wow, that's impressive, and a lot of power!

Thanks, but my main system dates back to 2021 and my house is off-grid with 2 EVs to charge.

I plan to replace the 4 x 5k Growatt inverters and the 4 x nRuit batteries. As with previous upgrades I am donating them to a friend.

Current plan is to add another 25kW of PV, 4x16kWh LVTopSun batteries and 4 x Luxpower 14kW inverters. Next week the plan might be different

I probably have one last solar upgrade in me so I want it to be a big one.

When I'm gone I don't my wife running to PEA begging to have the meter back!

The Sigenergy SigenStor battery system features advanced Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) cells that are rated for up to 10,000 charge-discharge cycles

That's 20 years? And might be why they are more costly and also considered the built in safety?

I agree, fantastic piece of kit. I might incorporate a "small stack" in my system:

12kW single phase inverter linked to 12kW of solar

25kW DC bi-directional charger

2x10kWh batteries

With top up AC input from my main system replicating a grid connection

It could be positioned between my 2 EVs

Having mentioned the LuxPower inverter, I thought I should also mention that they are very popular in the US. They are rebranded but you can still see the green LuxPower logo in the corner

@Bandersnatch - may I ask how much you've spent on your hardware and what sort of payback time you estimate?

Did you buy everything in Thailand?

How about telemetry of the various components in terms of the data provided and the ease of acquiring and saving the data?

  • Interesting thread by the way.

Don't know about BS, but I paid around 100kbht for my original installation 3+ years back, panels and inverter all failed in that time. But it was a good learning curve and equipment has all got cheaper and more reliable.

So I just chucked it and spent 20kbht on new panels and inverter which fills my entire household and driving needs (3 year warranty on inverter).

The people on these threads all have grand plans costing $$$$$s, but you can get a good return on quite a small investment.

All available to buy in Thailand now

Main Components (at todays prices)

20,000 Watts of PV @ ฿5/W = ฿100,000

36kWh Batteries @ ฿5k/kWh = ฿180,000

20kW of Inversion @ ฿5k/kW = ฿100,000

Total = ฿380,000

Savings:

PEA saving ฿4,000/month

EV Fuel saving for 2 drivers and 2 vehicles and 1 motorbike ฿4,000/month (based on Previous usage)

= ฿96,000/Year saving

For data

I use Solar Assistant to port the data into a Home assistant dashboard

Do you use batteries at night?

I used to, but now I use grid tie, and turn off for the days when a meter reader is coming. The battery from my old system are still connected, but only get used if the grid fails (16x CalB 200ah, must be 15 years old now, maybe still good for 50ah)

Why do you turn off? So they don't see the meter running backwards?
