I don't think the US has ever won a war without its allies, and the only wars that the US has ever gotten involved in on their own, they have either lost or become entangled in for decades. If the US can't beat a Iraq or Afghanistan, then despite the size of the military they are pretty hopeless, and because of that they need to stay out of other countries business.
