A 79-year-old Danish tourist has died after being found unconscious on a beach in Pattaya, Chonburi province, prompting an investigation by local police and emergency services. The incident occurred on 26 January at approximately 13.30, when authorities were alerted by members of the public to a foreign national lying unresponsive on Ping Pha Beach in Naklua Soi 22. Despite emergency treatment and resuscitation attempts, the man was pronounced dead shortly afterwards.

Police from Pattaya City Police Station identified the deceased as Mr. Bent Rosenkrands Christansen, a Danish national aged 79. According to initial inquiries, he had been walking along the beach earlier that day with his wife before the couple became separated for a period of time. Concern grew when he could not be located, prompting his wife and nearby beachgoers to assist in a search of the area.

Mr. Christansen was eventually found lying face down on the beach, having apparently reached the shoreline after swimming in the water. Officers at the scene stated that it was believed he may have experienced difficulty in the sea and struggled to make his way back to shore on his own. No signs of a struggle or external injuries were immediately visible when authorities examined the body.

Medical staff from Pattaya Patmakun Hospital were called to the scene to provide urgent assistance. First responders administered first aid and performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) in an effort to revive the victim. These efforts were unsuccessful, and Mr. Christansen was later confirmed dead, while his wife, Mrs. Jette Christiansen, was described as being in a state of deep distress.

Police confirmed that there were no indications of assault or missing personal belongings. The circumstances were formally recorded by investigators, who stated that the case would proceed according to standard legal procedures. Coordination with the relevant embassy is also under way to manage official notifications and arrangements.

The case is under the responsibility of Pol Col Anek Sratongyu, Superintendent of Pattaya City Police Station, with Lt Sub-Insp Anirut Jehroh serving as the investigating officer. Police radio officer Sgt Maj Thawit Thongplai reported the incident, noting that further procedural steps would follow in due course.

Why would a 79 year old dying in this manner be a 'very bad image' for tourism ??? - he wasn't attacked, murdered, killed... it appears he died of 'natural causes' after swimming.

  • Indeed. We all have to die somewhere. A sunny beach in Thailand is better than some other options...

  • Not a single week or month without a foreigner dying on the streets of Pattaya. Very bad image for tourism in Thailand.

Did you actually read the article? The guy passed away on a 'beach'.. nothing suspicious.. 79yr old is a good innings.. would look like natural causes.

IF you are going to spread 'throw-away' comments like you did.. at least back them up with facts. You smell of being one of those farang who just like to moan, complain, whinge, cry and sook at anything available.. You a Brit right? There are daily planes going back to UK.. you should try to find yourself a good deal.

I wonder how death due to age-related conditions in Denmark is affecting their tourism.

30s is too soon. Dying in your 30's is tragic. As is the 40s

Sympathy dissapates from there. 50s is such a shame

60s is too soon

70s a good run

80s a life well lived

90s - a fricking hell of a ride

What's 100+, because that's my goal...

There was an Aussie guy in Cambodia that died “in the saddle“ if you know what I mean. He was around 60. Turns out he had started to take crystal meth and his heart gave out.

Many lessons to be learned there.

People die, that's a fact

Has nothing to do with bad image. People die in Pattaya and people die in their home country ,no difference !

Exactly !

It's possible the ol' drink and maybe a high fat meal contributed to his struggle at sea. 🤔

Never drink alcohol or eat big meals before going swimming .

I'm not actually sure what lessons are to be learned from your short story. Could you elaborate?

60 year olds shouldn't be doing crystal meth.

79 years old. Old people do die after strenuous exertion. Not Pattaya and not Thailand's fault.

No matter how many times you post this lame take, people will be traveling to Pattaya in droves.

I would think his children/ great grandchildren would disagree. Men that age in Pattaya is something to be embarrassed about. Any other beach would be OK.

I'll offer you 3 to 1 that you won't make it and if you do I'll be dead by then. A win win situation.

Nobody should be "doing" crystal meth!

Seems to me Sigmund you have put yourself into your own bracket group and thrown in assumptions for good measure
