I wonder if he is known to the British authorities. Foreigners owning a gun implies they think they may need to use it.

or maybe they think of it like having insurance "just incase" like I do!

I have car / health insurance, I dont want to use them, but if something happens I'm happy I have it!

Nationality doesn't mean a lot. An a**hole is an a**hole regardless of country of origin!

The 2 children were his wife's, not his.

As a Brit, I have to admit that I have met more British criminals in Thailand than I ever did in UK. Still the minority, but it does affect our reputation. I guess that when life in the UK throws up problems, a new start seems like a good idea. Unfortunately many of us do not leave their problems behind. And Thailand causes a lot more!

He won’t last long in Prison.

how do you know that, friend of yours?

Another Brit who will not see Britain ever again. I hope his prison sentence is longer

than his remaining life.

The difference, of course, is that you won't go to prison if you use your insurance.

I can't think of anything that could happen to me that would be worse than going to the Bangkok Hilton for a decade or so.

why would I go to jail for defending myself?

I think I would take jail over death. Also this is Thailand, what 5-6 years and your out!

you meet people who seem chilled for years but when annoyed they will go to another level. be careful

From what I have heard from his golfing companions, he's never been chilled for the ten or so years he's been here. Loud, overbearing, with an opinion on everything. They also suggest he was dabbling in more than heroin and apparently quantities of narcotics have been recovered from his home.

There's no mention in the article or any follow up that a foreigner friend who he called to help him get away, and knowing he had killed his wife, has been detained. Not sure if arrested. When I watched the Thai TV news the morning after the shooting, they showed CCTV footage of him getting into a blue Ford Ranger which hasn't been mentioned in the OP.

There are also rumours of other acquaintances being worried as the police now have his phone and may be looking through his contacts and their conversations.

Throw away the key !

He was seemingly an a**hole before this happened and would regularly be shouting at neighbours and threatening them like he was some mafia boss .

He tried to say the gun went off by accident , twice 🙄 . Fact that he told her to come there and then went and got the gun before she was shot dead would put him up for premeditated murder I would think.

Oh please

Have some empathy , this is domestic violence

As tragic as it is , it's not the first ,it happens several times a year around the world and it will continue sadly

Earlier in this thread from a different golfer.

I played golf with this guy a few weeks ago.

He was a regular member of our Khon Kaen Expats golf society and was not particularly well liked as he was very loud and vociferous on the course.

Insert duck analogy [here]

In your case, maybe the dick analogy would be more appropriate?

If you are a foreigner in possession of a firearm in Thailand, you risk getting tossed in the BKK Hilton, even if you're defending yourself.

If you use that firearm to shoot someone, you may spend that 5-6 years eating fish head soup with 100 of your new besties.

If you're a permanent resident you can get a permit and legally own a firearm in Thailand as an expat.

I still take 5-6 years eating fish heads over death!

They eliminated that for foreigners around 2017. There's some existing permits grandfathered in, but I don't think they can issue any since then.

Obviously, you can do what you want. But for me, the risk x reward for possessing an illegal firearm in Thailand isn't a good proposition.
