Recovering money owed to me, any advice

Featured Replies

did you do due diligence on the business ability to replay the loan? did you secure the loan with an asset? car? property? gold? no? well loaning a restaurant is a risky business, i think pretty much anyone in business will tell you this. so you were taking a risk, you hoped to profit but it looks like you'll lose the profit and the capital. what you gain is valuable business and life experience. hopefully you didn't load more than you can afford to lose? that would be very silly.

When in Thailand Rule #1, never, ever, ever loan money to a foreigner. Spend (waste) your money on the beautiful Thai girls. My girlfriend is worth ever penny.

If you need to collect money, usually it's two Thai guys wearing black and riding two up on a scooter that are the required 'professionals'.

Really doesnt matter Thailand or any country, Thai or Indian or what ever.

When money is involved in loaning, keep in mind you can loose it .

Seen , lived it. The 2 times I ever did, I got money back , but it is a drag.

Last year I did to a neighbor, all stress, no money, not eating for a week.

Really rotten situation and decided to loan. Nothing on paper and loans in smaller amounts, not like your 200 k.

You will get the situation, ah yes, pay back next week and after a week again. and again and again.

He did pay back eventually, but it is all depending on the person and situation.

Big amounts for sure not loaning out. Im not going there. Rarely you will get it back, even small amounts are a drag.

I see on tv a program with UK bailiffs and situations, oh man what a disasters. AND now and then even rich people !

Then they come to take away the fat Mercedes and Range Rover.!

Dont know if they have bailiffs in Thailand? However you also need to go to court then.

You learned now and most of the time , it is a good lesson for the future.

And maybe if you win in court, you still could be the looser.

Bailiffs are there to collect, but if the chicken is naked , you cant pick from it.

As i said dont know if they have such a system in Thailand.

The 55 K , you probably can forget, nothing on paper. Your word against them and they will say gift.

Also last year, Thai MIL needed a new roof. They didnt ask me, but I paid for the new roof. Gave it.

However then you get the talk.
