February 5Feb 5 I am 10 weeks post knee fracture walking with a cane but experiencing swelling on the injured foot as well as some swelling uninsured foot. Elevate everyday including balm but the swelling is persistent. Anyone have any recovery experience and recommendations
February 5Feb 5 First of all, return to the ortho doctor to assess healing progress. If things check out OK, given that the swelling is in both legs, possible that it is unrelated. Bilateral edema can be due to a numbet of things including cardiac issues. How old are you? When did you last have a complete check up? Any significant medical history?
February 6Feb 6 Playing cricket and a fast ball impact went thru the pads and fractured my patella. Very sore with swelling, leg was placed in a plaster cast so I couldn't do much exercise.I only had trouble with that knee and leg and not ankle swelling that I remember.
February 7Feb 7 Author I am 72 years old . I saw the orthopedics doctor 2 weeks ago and he said the swelling will persist a few months. The fracture 99% healed. Going to see therapy doctor Monday morning swelling mininal in the uninjured foot but the injured foot better in the morning but after activity walking increases swelling. So I'm looking for advice how to reduce the swelling. Or if anyone had any experience they can share
February 7Feb 7 some swelling towards end of the day in the injured leg is not unusual. More frequent breaks with foot elevation during the day may help.
February 7Feb 7 Badly comminuted knee fracture (Schatzker VI)The injured knee was visibly thicker than the healthy one for a year or two.And when the legs got swollen for whatever reason (eg sitting too long or taking amlodipine), the formerly injured leg - including the ankle - always was much more swollen than the other side. This lasted for over 2 more years.Hard to say what helped. My guess is, it were vigorous strengthening exercises (strengthening the muscles of the leg) that I started about 3 years after the accident. They made the knee pain disappear, too.BTW 10 weeks crutches is too long.
