A 51-year-old Thai taxi driver, identified as Sangwan, confessed to raping an intoxicated female passenger at a love hotel in Bangkok on February 3. The victim, a university student, reported the incident after awakening naked in the hotel room, having lost consciousness during the taxi ride. She had been out drinking before taking the taxi around 3am to meet a friend, later regaining consciousness at 7am and seeking medical attention before filing a police report.

Sangwan was arrested in the Ratchadaphisek area after police investigations confirmed his involvement. The incident was reenacted in footage aired by Channel 7, where Sangwan admitted to taking the woman to the hotel after she failed to exit the vehicle. Although he confessed to being bewildered by his actions, he did not directly admit to the assault, only stating an "evil spirit" might have possessed him.

The suspect faces charges under Section 276 of the Criminal Law, which includes penalties of four to 20 years’ imprisonment and fines between 80,000 to 400,000 baht. The case emerges shortly after another rape incident in Chon Buri, where a woman was attacked in an abandoned building, with the rapist still at large.

Looking ahead, Bangkok police continue to investigate the current case, while action is being taken to bring the suspect to trial. Authorities are stepping up efforts to ensure the safety of passengers and tackle the increasing number of assault cases reported this year, reported The Thaiger.

Key Takeaways:

  • A Thai taxi driver confessed to raping a passenger who was unable to defend herself.

  • The driver faces up to 20 years in prison under Section 276 of the Criminal Law.

  • The incident follows another reported rape case in Chon Buri.

Yeah, sure! The sleaze bags always have a stupid excuse! Instead, it´s probably truer that he just saw his chance and at the moment thought he would get away with it.

Seems to me there are no more things to investigate. He has confessed, and the fact is that he kidnapped an unconscious woman, brought her to a room and raped her. He should have the hardest punishment possible 400K and 20 years. No chance that a made up third, evil spirit, part was present.

Can’t blame him. Evil spirit possessed him. Unless you find the evil culprit a wai and some cash is all he’ll end up paying.
