Any posters have experience with this surgery or Doctor? Thanks Sinus surgery is a generic catch-all. Doesn’t say anything about what you’re having done or why.I’m guessing 8k is US dollars? Because at Bangkok Hospital where your doctor appears to work, the range is from ฿170k and up.Empty nose syndrome is real and it sucks.

Sinus rinses. I either add high UMF manuka honey (20+) or 3 drops of high grade (70% carvacrol) to the rinse. Both are good. The Manuka honey (available at Gourmet Market) will be exponentially more expensive but won’t burn as much as the oregano oil. I also take oregano oil gel-caps instead of any antibiotics.N-Acetylcystein (NAC). I take 1000 mg 2-3x a day. It liquifies the mucus (much better than Mucinex IMHO) and helps your sinuses drain.Dietary changes. Anything that makes your mucus thick (like in the back of your throat)….give it up. Sugar, milk and gluten are the worst for me.Personally, I’d try anything possible before resorting to surgery.
February 10Feb 10 FYI…Chula has a special clinic which is just a little more than half the price of the private hospitals. The general side will be even less expensive but you’ll have to wait in line.

February 10Feb 10 I had a benign inverted papilloma removed from my maxillary sinus at Sukhumvit Hospital in 2008. The surgeon was from Chula Hospital. Cost was about 170,000. More expensive than originally advised, as at the last minute, they told me the endoscopic method wouldn't guarantee complete removal. I consented to the Caldwell-Luc procedure which involved accessing the papilloma through the upper gum line in my mouth. Necessitated 3 days in hospital. I have a numbness in my mouth ever since, so I would avoid this procedure at all costs!
February 10Feb 10 I recommend you consult this doctor:https://www.saintlouis.or.th/doctor/dr.songklot-aeumjaturapat/fa5a6125-2b55-4113-ac50-8c94d64e7300https://www.medparkhospital.com/en-US/doctors/assoc-prof-dr-songklot-aeumjaturapathttps://www.bangkokhospital.com/en/bangkok/doctor/dr-songklot-aeumjaturapatSame doctor different hospitals. The first hospital will cost the least (among private hospitals). I think he is also at Chula in a teaching/supervisory capacity. Sinusitus does not usually require surgery. Only if it is chronic and does not respond to vonservatuve management . See what Prof. Songklot recommends.
February 11Feb 11 I had sinus surgery about 30 years ago. I had been coughing up a little blood - my GP suggested either lung or sinus problem. Eventually saw an ENT doctor who diagnoses severe sinus infection. Suggested either a long course of antibiotics or surgery - recommended the latter as it would reduce the likelihood of future problems. I followed his (the ENT doctor's) recommendation - possibly a bad move. Over the past 30 years I generally get one severe sinus infection every year, requiring antibiotics, anti-inflammatory and steroid treatments. I use a saline nasal rinse twice a day.Depending on your underlying condition, I suggest surgery if it is only absolutely necessary.
February 11Feb 11 As I have come to learn, it all depends on your dr/surgeon. How talented they are.Asthma is in our family, just seems to pick random members and polyps follow asthma. My aunty had asthma and when I was young the I had runny nose etc which led to nose blocking and was sinus infections.Went to my aunties 'butcher' (afterward how another EN&T specialist described him) and revisited about every year for him to put some long nose pliers up my nostrils and pull out the polyps, which caused a bit of eye watering, then cotton wool up the nose, left in place, to stop the bleeding, then smack on the bum and off home in the bus.The worst was getting the cotton wool out after it had stuck to the blood. So I had these operations about yearly. That specialist retired and saw another one and knocked me out and went into the sinuses and cleaned them all out, we hoped. Each op was getting worse as the bleeding was difficult to stop.Within 6 months polyps had reappeared. My dr was going to an ENT convention so he said I'll make some enquires with the other specialists.Up until that time polyps don't seem to have been taken too seriously but was recommended to another specialist who took them very seriously as they can turn cancerous.Upshot was a major op. where the dr said they peeled back my face and the polyps were everywhere. All thru my sinuses and growing up into my optic nerve. They managed to get all the cells, so polyps wouldn't come back.I was in the microsurgery ward where they were doing magic like sewing my face back on, reattaching hands cut of in hay bailers and stitching up Jack Newton who walked into a spinning aeroplane propeller. That was in my 20s and still have sinus trouble (without any sinuses) but mostly all good.If you do get asthma or sinus problems with polyps, don't treat it lightly.
February 11Feb 11 Author I want to thank all of you for your input . I do not want to have surgery but my situation is pretty uncomfortable it comes and goes monthly. Headache fatigue cough . It was never diagnosed in America I finally went to a neurosurgeon in Chiang Mai and had an MRI. Eventually I went to an ENT and she seems to lean towards surgery two days in the hospital !? They have me on nasal spray , sinufen , Aerius and if it gets bad I take Maxiphed which really seems to help. The original problem was my eyes aching which the American opthamologist basically brushed aside. I saw Dr Paradee and she gave me eye drops which help. My American GP says it is on me ; is it too uncomfortable to not have surgery. I did a search and came up with this Doctor -Dr. Somsak Wankijcharoen(for surgery). However, Sheryl really seems to know her stuff should I cancel and go see Dr Songklot Aeumjaturapat ? I am also working on a second opinion From Johns Hopkins .
