What is funny is that I have posted pictures of prices, even went to the local food court, as I was told it would there not more than 50 baht.

Anyone else posted evidence of their claims?

I know there was a screenshot that claimed 20 baht, which is actually impossible, because even only the raw meat would cost more if it is to be a decent portion.

No I didn't, I went to the food court because I was told it would there be less than 50 baht. \

At 65 baht it is still almost 100% increase over 5 years ago, which is 20% a year inflation.

Now I expect the posts saying Big C foodcourt is expensive

Grow up. You are receiving first hand experiences of people living in thailand.

Face it you are wrong and were proven so. Now accept reality and move on.

Cue some sort of waaaaa reply.

That is my OP, anyone has posted evidence that he pays only 30 - 40 baht for a decent portion?

Become friends with the owner. Thats how you get free eggs and larger serves.

Or maybe you are just making things up. Is your local in Holly Frankie?

No, @CallumWK r

35 baht sans egg. 45 with a fried egg.

It's also 45 baht for a version with duck meat and a fried chicken egg at Pier 21/Terminal 21.

So you don't believe facts when shown. I posted name of restaurant, food, menu & current review, all of which you could easily verify.

Stating we're all lying, somehow in your mind, proves you aren't mistaken or simply misinformed due to lack of similar experiences.

35 baht, what a rip off cheesy

You need to get out more .... 20 baht in my neck of woods ...

A decent portion should have at least 100 gram of meat in it, so I can imagine how large those 20 baht portions are when only the raw pork meat would cost more than 20 baht.

You saw the photo, so same size as most vendors put out. They simply don't care about making a huge profit, or possibly any profit. Most vendors charge 50 +/- for the same. I actually get the Kha Moo when visiting, also 20 baht. If not enough nor a big eater, get 2 or 3 servings, all of 60 baht. At 20 baht, usually get a Kha Moo for the dog. Might make fried rice with the rice portion, as normally don't give her rice.

For me, most 50 baht plates / bowls of food, any vendor, is not a meal. No matter what some folks say. "I eat 3 meals a day, for 150 baht, TH is so cheap" ... right.

That you paid 89 baht was your choice, and as many pointed out, not necessary. Especially since that serving size wasn't anything special. 7-11 sells the same for probably 49 baht.

Very few one dish Thai meals have 100 grams of meat. One of the reason they are healthy and you can eat 4 meals a day. Truthfully I cant think of any. Kow Mu no, Kow Mok no, Krapow no, Kow man gai no, Kow Phad no, any of the noodle dishes no.

After 40 years of eating like this I am healthy, fit and when eating western food my portions are much smaller as well. A 4-6 ounce cut of most any meat would be fine by me.

So true, and for reference, a BK Whopper burger patty is 113 gr. The OP's photo, looks about 40-50 gr, of ground pork at <100 / kg, & 3 baht for the egg, that's a high profit serving of Krapao Moo.

My local inside restaurant (I don't go to food courts, a bit too low class)

45bht normal. 60bht large on most common food items. All with steamed rice. Had grapow Gai (45bht) there yesterday with my wife (Valentines meal out). Same prices as in 2024, not much inflation out here.

I can't answer to what a 'decent portion' is, as I'm not a fatty (74Kg).

Normal size does me.

I've noticed imported items are up 50%-75% since late 2022. Local items haven't increased nearly as much.

I just allot myself 8 Euros(10 USD) a day for food and I usually cook at home. I could go down to 4 Euros a day but I'm not skint like most of the other expats here.

Before Covid this meal would cost 35 baht in a street side restaurant.

This is the price today as take away in a supermarket, a price increase of almost 200%,for a meal consisting of local grown ingredients only.

Why not go back to the street side restaurant?

I can assure you that I don't have empty pockets. You???

None whatsoever. I'll pay the price for a decent meal. Usually 250 baht upwards. Certainly wouldn't quibble of a few measly baht.

Post COVID prices have increased everywhere, not just Thailand

This is one of the 2 major supermarkets in Thailand. The name is on the label, so definitely not comparing apples with oranges, and for sure not the most expensive one, as it caters to normal Thai people.

You guys want to claim you still can get it for 35 baht at a street side restaurant? Obviously you never eat Thai food then, because the price at those restaurants today is about the same, but they don't have price labels to take a picture.

I am about to pop up the road for one. 40 baht. It has been 40 baht for as long as I can remember. I have not seen 35 baht meals since a bottle of Hong Thong whiskey went past the 100 baht mark.

My recent (past month) prices paid have been ฿60 but there were a couple of places I ate at where they only charged me ฿50. One place just outside Burriram and one place in Nakhon Sawan

The images below were of what I actually received for ฿50

Looking at prices I have paid, the last time I paid ฿35 for lunch at a sit down place (pork rice egg) was in February 2019, but then by Feb 2020 the price was up at ฿45

The same dish in the same place in January 2026 is now ฿60

The places I refer to are remotely located around the North and Northeast, also asI don't buy when I'm at home in Bangkok so not sure what can be bought for lower prices in the city

$10 sounds about right, for home cooking. We spend about 15k THB a month, but for 2 people, almost all whole foods, little to no processed foods. Thinking what we have now, processed ...

... roti

... croissants

... corn flakes

... fried onions, fried garlic

... pasta

... couple sauces & salad dressing

... a few coconut desserts

... bologna, chorizo, cheeses (America, Parmesan)

... milk powder, cream cheese, butter

... 70% chocolate pieces

I think that's it, everything else, raw ingredients. Kind of mind boggling actually. No cookies, crackers, crisps, jelly/jams, canned beans, fruits or veggies, or any snacking items. Nothing really to just open a package and eat, or quick heat up/microwave to eat. Just frozen blueberries, for smoothie & corn flakes.

Everything either has to be prepared fresh from scratch, or leftover (lots of). Only thing for snacking would be ripe papaya & bananas, as endless supply of those, and soon my figs, starting to ripen. Wife counted 150+ figs in the Greenhouse 😁

The OP tries to compare a flip flop beach sandal to a pair of shoes and wonders why the price is so much higher. 🤦‍♂️

I filled my fridge with imported chocolate at Xmas

79bht for Foxes Millionaire cookies (Food Variety)

79bht for 4x bars of Chunky white chocolate KitKat (Food Variety)

99bht for 2x packets of Mcvities milk chocolate Digestives (RimPing)

Never seen imported food so cheap before (last 18 years)!

Still got plenty left ...... except KitKat, my son ate them all.

I told you already in the post above yours if you had bothered to read. Where I live, and that is 15km East of Pattaya, in a small town the price is 80 baht. I'm sure that in Pattaya, where I lived before Covid and the price was 35 baht, you will not have it for 80 baht today

I live east of Pattaya, too, near Lake Mabprachan. There is a good open-air restaurant in our area that serves generous, delicious meals for 60 baht. Chicken pad Thai, chicken with mixed vegetables over rice, sweet and sour chicken over rice, yellow curry chicken over rice, etc. etc. If we don't feel like going to the restaurant, they will deliver it for the same price. Bargain.

There are other open-air restaurants all over the area with similar prices. If we want an air-con restaurant, there are those, too. My favorite serves 2 pieces of chicken breast with choice of sauce, french fries, garlic bread, and a small salad, mostly lettuce with cherry tomatoes, for 100 baht.

We sometimes do our grocery shopping at the Tops at Chill. Over by the restaurant area they usually have on a table maybe a half-dozen or so Tops local prepared meals, I think most are around 50 to 60 baht or so. I like the macaroni and chcken in tomato sauce--I think it's around 40 or 50 baht--I don't pay too much attention to the price other than seeing it is very reasonable. There's inexpensive food all over the place; you just need to look around a bit.
