Thai Vets Make Breakthrough With First Cat Pacemaker Implant

Veterinarians at Chulalongkorn University’s veterinary faculty achieved a first in Thailand by implanting a pacemaker in an eight-year-old cat suffering from frequent fainting due to heart rhythm issues. The complex surgery, which required opening the animal’s chest to attach leads to the heart, has restored the cat to normal activity and appetite. This landmark procedure demonstrates advanced cardiac care capabilities in the country’s animal health sector and involved a multidisciplinary team of specialists. Post-operative care includes regular check-ups but the pet now enjoys an improved quality of life. Specialists say this opens the door for more high-precision treatments for small animals nationwide.

Thailand does have good medical care no doubt. Saved my dad's life.

The vets doing the job will be the top 1% in the country, in my rural area, most Thai "vets "would not become nurses in a UK vet surgery.

My area is big dairy cow one, trying to find a good vet to do an operation on a cow ,i.e., C-Section, displaced Abomasum, not easy/impossible. I Have heard of one very good cow vet but he is 80 km away, not always able to come to this area.

Did your father own a cat? If so, did a Thai vet manage to save its life?

Remember, Thailand is a Buddhist nation, where a cat's life is equal to your father's life. The only difference is, one can afford to pay, the other can not. 🙂

I know that schrodinger had a cat.

Next time you're driving make sure you clear your windshield of all those dead bugs....a feature not available in thai automobiles.

What do you mean? I've been using vets here for about 25 years and they seem pretty cheap to me.

They're not actually dead, just been reincarnated. 🙂
