How long to get your Certificate of Residency from your IO?

Featured Replies

I just got my Non-O retirement visa so it's the first time for a COR. I'm in Lamphun, and after dropping off all the papers, the officer said "15 working days". When I explained that I had a DL appointment coming up, she said "maybe next week". I'm wondering if this is normal.

The documents they required were:

Copy of passport and visa

Copy of all used passport pages

Hand-drawn map of residence

TM-30

Original / certified bank statements

2 Photos

Application

Other than the few baht for copies, the used passport pages were no problem, but a bit of a surprise. Are other offices requiring those?

OP.... Which immigration office?

eg CW is approx 5 business days.

Others have various process, time and also optional "express service" Charge

This was Amphur Lamphun. I probably should have asked about express to grease the wheel, though she didn't hint at anything.

I just applied for one in Chiang Rai this past Monday. They gave me a receipt telling me to come back next Monday, 7 days. I provided a copy of the picture page of my passport, copies of my original visa and latest extension. Along with that I provided a copy of my TM30, yellow book and Thai ID card. Chiang Rai has a simple form to fill out. No picture was needed.

Why and for what purpose are you applying for a COR, if you have a yellow book and ID card?

From a Facebook page a year back..

"I went to ask at DLT Lamphun for my renewal due in a couple of months - they confirmed me the yellow book is enough and they don't even want to see the pink card. As always, each province make their "rules"...

So seems Lamphun (op office) a yellow book might be sufficient.

I realize that in time past, yellow book was sufficient.

Currently some transport offices require COR.

Done it yesterday (COR for Thai DL) at Jomtien (Pattaya / Chonburi) immigration.
Request at 13.00 > pick up at 16.00 hour - fee: 300 THB

Aliens are advised to get a yellow house book, then for the most part, they never need to get a COR again.

They obviously don't understand the relevance of a Yellow Tabien Baan and Thai ID card for foreigners, issued under the Civilian Registration Act.

Granted this is cut/paste from AI....

"Limitations: Some DLT offices (especially in Bangkok/Mor Chit) may refuse the pink card if it is not linked directly to your current passport, or if they strictly require a certificate of residence."

When I did my TDL renewal in Bangkok I specifically asked about Pink Card. At Chatachuck Transport office that COR is required.

OP indicates he just obtained Non O

Doubt he would have Pink card.

It varies between Immigration offices. Seems they each have their own rules. I got one last year from Krabi. Took 30 mins and cost 300 baht.

My office Rayong would accept the yellow book in the past but as of last year they request a COR

Have read similar posts (in other provinces) re needing the COR where in the past the yellow book was accepted

OP is Lamphun specific

Correct, though I was just wondering how much variation there is.

According to the land office here in Chiang Rai they want the COR for my license renewal. They won’t accept the yellow book

Samui dlt accept yellow house book and pink card. If you need cor, 1 day. Passport and house book + tm 30.

I believe there is a reason for that.

Chiang Mai Immigration as of 11 Feb 2026.

I go one within an hour at Phuket IO two years ago. No extra charge.

In Ratchaburi a couple of months ago it took about 15 minutes to get the letter for renewing my Thai Drivers license.

5 years ago the form had a picture of me on it but this time it did not.

I dont go to the immigration office in the past I go to the local Amper office for a letter, that I produce at the dvla office to renew my drivers licence,

Some different things needed,

Like my mother inlaw to sign with thumb print, as she cant write,

Por yai ban, has to attend in person

House books we have several houses,

All blue

Never asked for TM card

Only passport details page copied,

One year the Amper made a spelling mistake so back to the office again,

Dvla Kanchanaburi

Doing it again next week

How much do you have to slip to the Pooyai ? ( and the m.i.l ?) lol The cues at our amphur can be horrendous, but your way sounds like a plan for those who have to deal with difficult immigration offices.

For me the local immigration office is the best option C.O.R 500 baht. done there and then, while you wait, only passport required, makes sense, everything else is already on their computer system. i guess It would cost me 500baht for the poo yai and god knows what the mother in law charges these days.

Chiang Mai Immigration as of 11 Feb 2026.

Was in a queue for less than 10 minutes

I opted for the 16 day turnaround with a total fee of THB 60 that also covers the registered mail delivery of the Certificate.

Tracking numbers already given at time of application.

Due by 28 /2/26 .

I renewed my drivers license last year at the Bangkok, Bang Chak DLT office. I got my certificate of residency from the Immigration office in One Bangkok. I arrived at 11:45 and they told me to pick it up after lunch, which I did. I was surprised at the 1 hour turnaround. I'm not sure if it was because I have an LTR visa or just a general policy with Immigration.

My last certificate of residency was from the US embassy. I think I was about the last person to get one from the embassy before they discontinued that service.

Those who need to use Bangkok's main immigration office (Chaeng Watthana) get their Certificate of Residence mailed to their home address after applying there, so it usually takes just under a week and there's no same-day option. As an LTR visa holder, you're better off.

Got mine in less than an hour, at Hua Hin.
