Green party: Open Borders, Free Homes, Pay, NHS for Illegal Migrants

Green party blueprint’ Open Borders, Free Homes, Income and NHS for Illegal Migrants

The Green Party of England and Wales is facing fierce criticism after internal policy proposals outlined plans to grant undocumented migrants housing, income support and full access to public services — even if asylum claims are rejected.

The proposals, associated with deputy leader Zack Polanski, come as the party enjoys rising national support and seeks to position itself as a leading opposition force ahead of the Gorton and Denton by-election.

Housing, Income and NHS Access

According to documents reported by the Daily Mail, the party would provide undocumented migrants with accommodation — either self-contained housing for families or private rooms in shared housing for individuals — along with a guaranteed income at the level of a Universal Basic Income, without requiring employment or job-seeking.

The proposals also state that migrants would be allowed to work “with no restriction” and would receive free access to the NHS immediately upon arrival, with those rights continuing even if their asylum claims were ultimately refused.

Amnesty and End to Detention

The policy framework calls for abolishing immigration detention and granting an amnesty to undocumented migrants. It states that migration “is not a criminal offence under any circumstances” and that people who have exhausted appeal rights would not face deportation.

Under the proposals, asylum claims would be considered regardless of the route taken to enter the UK, and penalties on commercial carriers transporting undocumented migrants would be scrapped. Border officials would take a “neutral approach” to interviews, and applicants’ statements would be believed unless contradicted by evidence.

Migrants who have been in the UK for at least five years would be “invited” to remain permanently.

Voting Rights and Broader Social Policies

The immigration platform also suggests extending voting rights in elections and referendums to foreign nationals holding most visa types.

The proposals follow separate controversy over the party’s support for drug decriminalisation and sex work reform. The Greens have previously backed legalising drugs including heroin and cocaine under regulated frameworks and have argued for decriminalising sex work.

Political Backlash

Opponents swiftly attacked the migration proposals. Figures from Reform UK and the Conservative Party described the plans as financially reckless and dangerous, while a Labour source said voters expect immigration controls to be enforced.

Polanski and party representatives defended the policies, saying they reflect long-standing principles adopted by members. A party spokesperson said the Greens are “proud” of the platform and argued that it has resonated with voters during the by-election campaign.

Polling Shift Ahead of By-Election

The controversy comes as polling by Find Out Now reportedly placed the Greens second nationally on 18%, behind Reform UK on 25% and ahead of the Labour Party on 16%.

With voters heading to the polls in Gorton and Denton, the debate over immigration and border policy has intensified, highlighting stark differences between the Greens’ vision of expanded migrant rights and rival parties’ calls for tighter enforcement.

As the by-election approaches, the proposals have injected new volatility into Britain’s already fraught immigration debate.

London is now like a foreign country due to migration ,reform will do well

I'm sick of f!$$ing ukranian freeloaders coming to the UK. A special ukranian school had 25 pupils 5 years ago. Now they have 3,000 students. Those little Ukranians walk to school waving Nazi flags, are eating the local cats and organizing booty shaking competitions for the local women. They all need to be deported back to where they came from. What are they doing here anyway? They should be back in Ukraine, fighting on the front lines with their military. Don't get me started on the white south africans and australians stealing our low paid jobs.

I'm sure you can substantiate your claims. Looking forward to it.

A hilarious manifesto from the Greens, never mind this by-election, they'll get hammered in three years with policies like this.

Nothing new' we've got all that already by the rapist boatload 🤔

Also the Green Party...

"Greenland has to be for Greenlanders".

An ethno-nationalist when it suits.

What a bunch of clowns.

I didn't notice it was a joke until I got to the Nazi flags and eating cats. It's an indication of how bad things have got that I didn't notice the humour straight away.

It was a joke, wasn't it?

You need to calm down and check your facts first.

I hope you join them. You've never lived in a war zone!
