I’ve been living in pattaya for a few months now. I met this girl on Thai friendly a few weeks ago and we have been dating since then. She told me that she has a regular job and I believed her. A few days ago she said that she needs to go visit her family. Today I was walking on beach road and I saw her wearing a short skirt and high heals. So I went to talk to her and she admitted that she is a freelancer. While we were talking, one of her old customers showed up and started to talk to her. She gave him an offer for short time right in front of me and she left with him. I was standing there like an idiot. It really made me feel like crap. After about one hour later she showed up at my condo like nothing happened. I kicked her out and blocked her. Did anybody here have a similar experience? Are most girls in pattaya freelancers?

Mistake number one was getting involved too quickly. Have some fun but really, really take your time. Many Thai women are very clever at making it appear that they really care for "their guy". And on many occasions, that is true, especially in long term relationships. But, for short time gals, it is just a game, and they play it well. Many Western men who come here are emotionally vulnerable, or an emotional wreck, having endured years of near torture by uber-feminists. 

My advice would be to take your time. Don't move fast, don't move in with her, don't live with her, date her for 6 months to a year and see how you like her. Time is required to really get to know somebody and once you face some adversity together, once you see her many times under many different occasions, you really start to get a sense of who she is and whether or not she is somebody who has the kind of emotional development that would make her worthy of investing your own time into her. She will likely push back as a lot of Thai women like to step up the timetable, you are then required to push back and set the ground rules. If she's not okay with that, you just let her walk. And always remember every woman has a story, some of them are real most of them are not, and a lot of these women are coached by women who are very skillful in telling a man what he wants to hear.

If you're dealing with a middle class woman from a stable family or from a woman from a wealthy family, it's a very different story. But most of the women we are exposed to come from families that are not well established, and families that are not financially secure, and this is a survival game for them.

Be kind to yourself and take your time.

It's her job! Many Thai girls have their (usually Thai) boyfriend but still work in bars or on the streets! Surely you realised this?

You should make up with this young woman.

Heard from friends that experiences on the opposite side are very common indeed...not sure they have dated yours or if it is most ladies, but seems fairly common to have a date with a lady who is married or have 'boyfriend'. Can be thai or foreigner (typically one not living in Pattaya full time)

This is Pattaya at the end and market economy seems to work just great.

One has to use common sense and just by virtue of the fact that she's living and working in Pattaya likely says a lot, and chances are she's a working girl. Whether she's semi-pro, full time, a bar girl, a freelancer or a massage girl, it really doesn't matter. A great deal of caution must be applied and one has to look at a girl like this as fun and games and nothing more. Very little disappointment is going to be experienced if you don't have unrealistic expectations from a working gal. It doesn't matter what she says, you just have to assume what she's telling you is not the real deal.

I didn’t give her any money but I spent thousands of dollars buying her stuff including a brand new iPhone. She is only 21 and doesn’t have children. I understand that she needs money but what I don’t understand is her giving a price to the other guy and leaving with him right in front of me. I just stood there for 10 minutes trying to process what just happened. I guess I was lucky to find out who she really is.

This is probably 2002 and I am living in Kata Beach Phuket up on the hillside. Start dating a waitress in a restaurant I frequented, very nice lovely gal. Told her I had a buddy coming into town, she says she has a friend to set him up with who has a "regular job".

Well, in normally operating spot markets transaction usually happens with the highest bidder, so likely the other guy offered more on the spot(?). If so, what exactly was the part you had difficulty to process - or was it so that your higher bid was declined?

Deal making with forward contracts can be different, though forward deals with favourable prices to the buyer often times get broken by the sellers due to favourable spot market price offers to the seller. And enforceability of forwards in Pattaya is weak as no collaterals, thus no-shows are common

My regular lady friend who is married with a farang not living here says about the same - as she was married when we met and I knew it from the get-go, she can have another man. But I can't have another girl because I was single.

Falls under the broader umbrella of local logic.

First question to ask yourself is what type of woman are you really looking for. Then you go to where they live.

Pattaya and other tourist spots have a much higher percentage of P4P women than anywhere else. This does not mean all women there are hookers. Most aren't, in any tourist area, but are there hoping to find a husband and more cash.

The problem is separating the regular women from the ones you purchase. The only way is time, IF you still want to stay there.

If you want a regular girl, on some sites, if you don't want to just walk around, hoping to find the right one that speaks at least some of your language, look outside the tourist areas and travel. If you use sites, put down exactly what you're looking for, and expect the usual BS, which again takes time to decipher.

Finding a decent woman here usually means looking in the country areas, or in a professional setting in the big cities. Independence means not needing to, or thinking to, drift towards selling your body to men. The normal ones are going to take a lot more time for everything. The easy ones require cash upfront.

If you just want to play, Pattaya or any other tourist area will be okay. Just don't expect a commitment to just you. More cash from someone else means goodbye, at least until it runs out with him. Another member here has had a hard time with his girl, wondering what she does when he's not around, and that's not good for the psyche.

oh I see nothing special about that - sometimes opportunities for good deal present them and you can only hope to be there when when those happen, you got to act fast as if not, someone else grabs the deal.
