Applying for a first 12 month extension of Non-Imm O marriage visa

Featured Replies

Hi all, I have been living in Thailand since 2004 on a Thai Wife visa (Non-Imm O), and apply annually for the 12 month extension. Last year my father sadly passed away so I had to return to the UK to plan his funeral and sort out his affairs. I am now ready to return home to Bangkok but while I've been away my visa has expired. I have now applied for a new 90 day single entry visa based on marriage. Here's my question... Can I apply for the 12 month extension as soon as I arrive or do I have to wait 60 days from the the date that I deposit ฿400,000 THB into my Thai bank account? Unfortunately I also let my Thai bank account run down while I was away. Due to my work I need to be able to travel freely in and out of the kingdom.

There are 2 dates you need to be aware of:

Seasoning of funds: The 400,000 baht must be in your Thai bank account for 2 full months already at the time you apply for your annual extension.

Immigration office rule: Most immigration offices allow you apply for an extension when you have 30 days or less left on your existing permission to stay. Some allow you to apply when you have 45 days or less left.
That means the earliest you can possibly apply is 45 days after you arrive at some immigration offices, and 60 days after you arrive at most immigration offices, regardless of your money seasoning.

Correct answer above.

You have an eVisa.

When you arrive you will be given a 90 day stamp.

"Permission of stay".,.

Straight away transfer 400k into your Thai Bank account.

After seasoned for two months your window for obtaining 12 month extension is opened.

Obviously obtain all the docs for marriage extension and apply for extension.

You won't be able to "travel freely" In and out of Thailand.

You can obtain a reentry permit to cover "under consideration" period.

Not ideal.

Which immigration office.

In the past have you had home visits

if you use bangkok bank be prepared to have the 400,000 frozen for four months as well, unless you can deposit it at least four months prior to applying for your extension

I have come back on a new visa a few times and it shouldn't be much different to what you have done in the past.

The first 90 day report will be taken from the day you make the extension application so I normally leave it as late as possible. You can leave the country on a re-entry permit but need to be present when required. Home visits can be a nuisance, 2 years ago I had the home visit same day as application but last time over a week later, bit hit and miss.

I don't want to hijack this thread but as the correct answer has been provided, I would just like to run my situation past the group...

I have an extension based on retirement which expires in June. My travels mean that I won't be here. I married in December.

My plan is to let the current approval expire and apply for a Non-Imm 'O' single entry visa, based on marriage, for my return in July.

I have 400k in Kasikorn and I have been routinely transferring 40k p.m. on the 1st of each month since the end of last year (in anticipation of using the income method in 2027)....the financial requirements for my application will be met.

I am also moving provinces from Chonburi to Buriram, although I don't intend to arrange the new TM30 until my return, - unless anyone can see a good reason to do so before I depart Thailand at the start of May.

When I return mid-July I would propose to visit one of the Buriram Immigration offices to submit the TM30, re-introduce myself and ask when they want me to apply for the 12 month marriage extension.

Have I missed anything obvious, or is there a flaw in my plan?
