Brother, take a long, hard look in the mirror. if you're staying in a hotel that allows 15 Indians in one room you are no better than a Benidorm Brit.

Stayed at a mid tier hotel in Pattaya a few months back. Adjoining room, noise all night in the room next door. When i went past the room in the morning, there were literally 15 indians guys all sleep

  • Must have been a right Slum to allow that, But hey you were staying there,

The problem is not the indians or the russians. The problem is how Phuket is becomming the world's sh...thole and that's due to all the scumbags that are welcomed here. And with all the cheating in prices, not sure who is cheating who.

Well, that was a long walk, but you did manage to throw Americans under the bus. Problem is, this thread is about TOURISTS in THAILAND.

Though you are correct about that, the problem is that America is is creating

so many problems around the world that no matter what topic you bring up, people will likely mention all the disasters that America is creating around the world.

FYI the topic is about certain types of tourists, and people certainly have a legitimate gripe when it comes to America these days, so unfortunately many of us Americans will get lumped in with that, even though most of us despise our idiotic president.

Why did this turn into an Anti-American discussion? Hmmm, Jealousy or just a fetish to pick on Yanks? The Thais did not mention Americans, but some folks here mush have has some Chads or Tyrone railed their babes and are still mad about that.

The reason is because America is now the most problematic country in the world, and they are creating more problems for people throughout the world than any other nation.

Has that occurred to you yet, or are you living in an alternate reality?

My top three choices also and not necessarily for the reason stated.

Agreed. I was first in Phuket in 1976. Few resorts. A few bungalows on the beaches. Beachfront land was 2,000 baht a rai. They could not give it away.

Went back in 1986. Had developed alot. Still very nice. Same applied to Samui. Again in 1993. Far more development. Still amazing. Azure seas. Spectacular women everywhere. Great food.

Did not return until around 2008. It was degraded, for the most part. But, still decent. Good nightlife.

Again around 2014. Nowhere near the place it used to be, with a diminished nightlife, but not awful.

Back again in 2023 and there was absolutely no charm left, very few attractive gals and Bangla Road was absolutely horrific, with barely a good looking girl to be found with the exception of just a couple of Go-Go's charging truly stupid money.

The primary population of tourists were Arabs, Malaysians, Indians and Russians and most of them felt like low end tourists and expats. The proliferation of Russians was too much to bear. They are SO obnoxious. No need to ever return. The charm is lost. The over development is stunning. The prices were crazy. Yikes.

There were countless issues, long before Covid, and NONE of them were being addressed. One administration after another here are regressive, and reactionary, and not the visionary and progressive leadership Thailand desperately needs now.

In terms of the vampiric management of tourists, one of the reasons I left Samui, was the attitude of alot of the locals. Back before the Apocalypse many of them were very jaded, and they seemed to be indifferent, and service suffered as a result of that. Less so with the Burmese workers, as they tend to be quite kind and helpful. Also, there is little to no local pride, as most who are from Samui and Phuket left long ago, after selling their land. That hurts. It was hard living in a place where most of the locals just did not seem to care about the island. Sometimes, the place felt like a 2 year old dishrag in a diner kitchen. Most of the people there for the past 20 years are transplants, who do not care about keeping up the island. The ex-pats always seemed more concerned about maintaining the cleanliness, than the locals.

Phuket and Samui are finished for those of us who have seen them back in their glory days.

Kudos to spidermike007 for your reaction to my playful messing with your original post.

Having worked in the hotel industry, I can confirm from firsthand experience that these workers are accurate in their rankings. Number 4 rightly belongs to Chinese clientele.

We have a couple of good Thai friends who live somewhere in America and they have a couple of Thai restaurants, and she was saying only yesterday that people dont have any money, they are ordering food online then complaining.

and want a $100 refunds, OK, then bring the food back, then they shut up. So you can throw the Americans into that pot,

There's a particular sector of the American population who is nefarious for this. Brazen / entitled enough to do it in a restaurant after they nearly lick the plate clean. They also don't tip. Anyone wanna take a guess?

We may be a lot of things but don't group us all together. They are definitely not representative of the population as a whole and their own don't even want to serve them.

Crazy how many times i have seen them share a room on such large numbers.

And tried to share bar girls.

Just because it was in America doesn't mean they were Americans! We are a dying breed.

There are 2 world's on this planet, 'The Civilised World and The Jungle' it's plainly obvious where you come from by your actions, and the lowest common denominator defines your country status. Russia, India Israel and a few others are rudimentary to say the least.

Of all the countries I have visited as a tourists and business traveler all my life, Thailand hotel staff are the best of the best. They are soooo patient, kind and welcoming, and I know their salary is small compared to other countries. The level of abuse and disrespect by these people identified in this article is shameful. I know from experience in Patts and BKK, that everyone on the list are disgusting, rude, low class human beings. I wish they would just learn basic manners and treat people the way they want to be treated, but I have no hope.

Nice post.

Pattaya not Patts. There is no such place as Patts anywhere.

And you might like to know that the word Pattaya in Thai language has a specific meaning and is easily translated to English with specific meaning. Just the first few letters 'pat' has meaning. It means 'wind'.

Show some respect for other countries and their language.

I think with all the craziness that's going on in the world right now, all the instability, all the fear, and all the uncertainty, it serves us well to maintain our sense of humor whenever we possibly can. And that is truly one of my favorite aspects of Thailand. I find the people here to be very light-hearted, they love a laugh, they love a joke, and that tends to keep me fairly light on my feet, and feeling a lot younger than I am.

So..... Too which North American tribe do you belong?

haha you got me. I learned my lesson this time though so let me know if I got it right.

You can take anyone from literally anywhere in the world and drop them into America at which point they become Americans with zero distinguishing characteristics.

So when someone mentions "ordering food and complaining" it's totally random what race that person could be and assuming otherwise is racism, the deadliest sin of them all.

In which countries is group sex with a willing prostitute considered to be rape? Name just one or apologise for talking such rubbish.

The thing is they are not willing and knew nothing of the extra customers, only the one who approached them outside the room...if this is a practise that you indulge in i would not approve of your values towards woman or human dignity...

I'm in total agreement about the Americans. I have friends who know younger Americans. And they say they are kind, friendly and progressive. I have no idea what percentage of the population these younger people represent, nor how representative they are of the American population. Personally, I have met very few friendly Americans. Anywhere in the world. The vast majority of Americans I have met, seem to have very, very few redeeming qualities. It is no wonder.

I can't believe he writes that garbage.

Quite a few comments say about low quality tourists, but I thought Phuket cost a fortune. I've only been once staying in the old city. As my accommodation was incredible, I didn't go out much, but I didn't see any troublemakers around. Not to say they don't exist of course.

There are 37 countries in the Americas......so two continents of scum? You must be a Worldly traveler to make this assessment.

Well you wanted there money you gave them free visas now reap the wind, you were told what was likely to happen down the line but it was ignored now suffer and stop moaning.

'Pat' is also the first syllable of a piece of machinery in Thai language the full word is patlong which translates to fan.

The 'third hand' comment reminds me of Americans at airports being demaning. Seen it several times; yelling 'where's the line for American Citizens' etc.
