Four on the floor........

That's an orgy !!!!!!!!!!!! :)

I've decided I'm going to replace this lemon of an Asus notebook of mine. (I'll never make that mistake again.) I've got my eye on a G73JH-TZ008X; i7 quad core, 8gb RAM, 2x500gb 7200 HDDs, HD 5870 (!) graphics card, 17.3" full HD screen (1920x1080), Blue Ray combo, Win 7 64 Pro - cAU$2600. Exceptional performance - a genuine desktop replacement jobby.

Oh, okay - it's another Asus, but second time lucky.

Just a comment, no problems in over 2 years with my Acer5920G

I do miss a numeric key pad, bloody hassle using the functions like basic fonts, and numbers etc........

é Œ ‡ and such.

There are many around, but may not be of consequence for you.

I do like simplicity, using correct spellings like "café"

Cheers Ping

Well, I have to say that I'm 95% sure that the problem with the current notebook is actually a conflict rather than a defect. With the number of re-installations I've made, I've narrowed it down to two candidates; either a recent Java version or Adobe Flash Player version. Both of these (popup update requests) keep asking me to install the most recent version but while I don't, I have no problems. It will be a conflict of one of those updates with some other device - most likely the graphics card (a common source of conflicts). So (despite my tongue in cheek quip above) I'm not all that concerned about replacing the unit with the same brand. My concern lies in the fact that this particular problem is across more than one model of Asus notebooks and to date, the company has not come up with a solution, begging the question 'Why?'

On a lighter note (to return to the spirit of randomnessnessness), you will recall that some time ago, a BM said that Ryanair will be charging to use the smallest cabin in the plane. According to today's TEN news, the price will be AU$1.60 per slash. Tiger has not ruled out also implementing this ridiculous fee. I now await the news reports of drunken cattle class yobbos being done for disorderly contact (it can be difficult to aim the snake at the narrow lid of an empty Peckham Springs mineral water bottle).

Just do what I told ya before, obviously are not having a good protection after you do a fresh install.

Do I need to tell you step by step?

Blurp....

:)

I don't recall your previous advice, Alex - but the problem is definitely not with malware - it's a conflict issue. I dare say it will be resolved eventually (?), but in the meantime, I'm looking for any excuse to upgrade (I'm just sick and tired of the current one) and with the amount of time I spend away from Oz, I really need a decent machine with the high-end power of the new Asus G73JH.

It's a gaming machine.

EXPENSIVE too.

Ping. You into games?

It's a disease some computer addicts seem to have. Always looking for excuses why they need to upgrade, change.

His partner won't buy into his real excuse namely he can't play the latest games.

:)

It certainly has a high end graphics card (making it eminently suitable for gaming), but did you see the other specs? Bargain for the price and a decent sized screen, to boot. It will also plug seamlessly into a large screen TV - at native resolution - which adds a nice touch to its multimedia capabilities. Mind you, I would probably not go to the trouble if it were not for the fact that I'm so ticked-off with the current one.

I occasionally play the odd game as well, but they are all old ones you could play on an old AT. Most of us old codgers are simply not interested in these flash new games the young sproggs play...

Ping, what is it that you use a computer mostly for?

^Alex, the old approach of asking what a person uses a computer for and then telling them that 'X' configuration will do the job nicely at a far lower price doesn't work for me. I like to future-proof as much as is reasonably possible (ie what I use the machine for today may not be what I want it to do tomorrow). Having said that, I do note that the one I described earlier has no USB 3 connectors (all USB 2).

So then just wait another day after you made up your mind and you can make up your mind again and wait another day.

In the meantime, I'd still be stuck with a coracle anchor (not heavy enough for a boat).

Has anyone been to the supermarket today?

:)

I'm quite happy with my ASUS laptop. With a 12 inch screen, it was perfect for traveling. I have it loaded with all the things I use... such as Adobe photoshop and programs for running various scanners, projectors and printers. I was quite happy with Windows XP, but then Microsoft changed to Vista that won't run any of my old equipment. I dislike Vista on my new DELL, but I don't want to risk losing my ASUS just in case I can't replace it.

The only games I play are with women in a hands on experience. I stopped playing games back in the Donkey Kong days on TV.

The Sangsom will make you believe you can speak fluent Thai. The morning after is just shame and headaches.

Last night I drank a lot of beer and Irish Whiskey.

I too have a headache and don't feel well.

Must have been the nuts.

Eek's gone red. :) Congratulations (I think...) :D

I'm thinking of running a poll here in Bedlam to see what time the British amongst us put their pyjamas on in the evening. after reading in today's "Telegraph" that "Almost 60 per cent of Britons say they slip into their pyjamas as soon as they get home from work.".. :)
