I will be retiring in Thailand in less than a year and am trying to plan ahead a bit. I'm looking at places like Sukhumvit east of Asok and the Phaya Thai area. Just trying to get ideas now, and watching some of the property sites. A big choice to make is renting a condominium or a house. I was leaning toward a house, but then when I was reading back through old topics in this forum, one mentioned snakes in a house. Is this a pervasive problem with houses in Bangkok, or a rarity? I'm not worried about outside...I'm talking about inside houses.

I've run into snakes in Thailand any number of times. Almost stepped on a cobra in Issan years ago. And an unidentified (but according to a monk, poisonous) snake almost crawled onto my hand when I was leaning on a tree while talking right over in Thonburi.

Your thoughts...okay, stop laughing! :o

I saw two snakes in my garden this week-end (a green and a brown one) ... but I live a t bit outside the city (Bangna).

As for inside the house ... only the snake head ... according to my wife :o

if you are going to have a house - do have a dog/dogs as well.

they will scare snakes and, at this same time, protect your property from the other, equally dangerous, sometimes deadly, intruders.

you can have some trees in your garden - but do cut overgrown bushes on the neighbouring plots

Snake is Common is my house in chiangmai where i have two brave dog .. which will auto detect if any come play in our garden .

my father fav hobby happen to be laying Catch with those snake and then release them in the wild .. or the mountian near chiangmai ..

in the past there would most likely end up on my dinning table ..

snake is really tasty :o and i do enjoy eaating them :D

i had nto seen any snake in bangkok .. but i did spot a large lizard . near the bangkok train station ..

when i say large lizard .. is really like a scale down version of the KODOMO DRAGON.

the one i saw is about 1 meter to 1.2 meter i guess

but stand tall -- eating junk on the large sewage just outside the train station juction

those are dangerous their saliva is usually infected with virus if you do get bite .. scream for help --w haha just joking , if you do get bite , Wash your wound with contact lens washer water . or sterile salt water .

clean the wound that is not bleeding with acol.

and get yourself to a hospital and tell the doc what happen .

the lizard weak point is just around the TAIL . using your THumb to press on the Anus will soften the lizard if you do get attack and want to have a go at it also .

the crawl is extrely sharp . leave it alone .. if you do spot one .

snake is more friendly and usually shy away when there spot human ..

if you do spoot SNAKE ..

small movment .. try to stay still .. and move slowly SIDE way ...getting yourself on the Blind spot which is at the center of the snake and move slowly retreat .. at a angle backward and side ward slowly ..

well . or find a stick about 1.5 - 2 meter long .usually snake do not attack unless is a mother snake protecting it eggs.. or a male that is hard up whahahah

good luck .. DO NOT TRY TO CATCH THE SNAKE . if you do not even KNOW THE NAME >.
