signs of civilization:(car) & personal electrical generator.(no electricity there since 2003-only in the green zone)

antiques :Iranian carpet and a hole for a water well (mostly, there is no water in the house!)

For some reason they've changed the name to Cham Wings Airlines.

Go to Nigeria - some of the internal airlines use Tupolevs that had passed their sell-by date with Aeroflot, were serviced in-country and again you loases your own baggage, single-cless seating, all livestock inside the cabin.

I flew only out of necessity (and out of Port Harcourt )

not limited to Iraq Zaza. we did something like this for several years and ALL flights in the late 70s. sometimes you just pointed out your luggage and it was loaded but quite often you had to load it yourself on the conveyor belt. procedure made sure that all the luggage was identified by passengers who actually boarded the plane and took the flight (and went down if there was a bomb in their luggage)

Vulure? I am a crow not a vulture. Vultures are filthy, ugly animals that eat carrion whereas crows are noble creatures

OMG, thats one VERY big spider, JxP!

You know, early one morning, i nearly jumped right out my slippers when faced with a spider as big as a 5 baht coin (body..more when you include the legs). I have NO idea how I would have reacted when faced with YOUR spider!

Im in CM too, I hope never to meet any as big as that one. Scarey.
