Went into M&M pizza in Rawai with my girlfriend and was just about to sit down when the young Thai waitress stops me and tells me I can't

sit there, I have to sit on one of the tiny "2 people" tables right in the middle of the restaurant. The place was

empty, only 2 other people in there so I politely asked the waitress if I could sit on on one of the tables nearest the road

(not worried about the size, just wanted to get some breeze, people watch etc). At which point the person I presume is the owner (middle aged

farang lady with short bleached blond hair) comes out and grunts towards a table near where I asked to sit,

and as we sit down she proceeds to pull the table apart as noisily as possible so that there

are now two of these tiny "2 people" tables (which are a bit like the tables you sit at when you take an exam) about 12 inches apart

instead of a normal sized table, before slapping a couple of menus onto the table.

She then walks off looking very pleased with herself as if to say "that will show them!!"

My girlfriend and I just sort of smiled at each other in a confused/amused way and got up and left before we'd

even read the menu that the "lady" had given us. The Thai waitress looked very embarrassed, I felt quite sorry for her!

Maybe she was having a bad day, but it seems a strange way to treat customers in an empty restaurant during low

season.

Proof, if it were needed, that nobody has the monopoly on bad service.

You did the right thing, got out without embarrasing the Thai waitress but making a point to the farang owner.

what a terrible attitude from the owner (or whatever she is).

serves herself right for losing your business.

i believe you did the right thing by walking out.

Yes I was tempted to say something to her but I didn't want to spoil the meal of the other couple in there, she obviously got the

message in any case.

Ah well, it would have been my last meal in Phuket as I'm off to Bangkok today to take up a full time job so maybe it wasn't such a bad thing :o

They've been doing that for years.  The staff has been trained to seat two people at the two seat tables.  Believe it or not the place does get busy usually every night.  However I have noticed that the prices have gone up, the amount of toppings on pizzas are very small, and overall the place is not good value for money.  They do make a lot of money over there and yes that was the owner, one of the M's of M & M.  Luckily there are other good pizza options now in Rawai, such as Da Vinci, which is classier, and a bit cheaper for their pizzas.

Don't like a place, don't eat there. You did the right thing.

I like M&M's though, good pizza and IMO good value for money. Have also not seen a priceraise there lately, and even at the moment the place is normally full, so I can understand they were not willing to give 2 persons a 4-persons table.

I too, since over 5Years,once per Week,i pick up most time Pizza Tuna for only 180.-Baht.

Never had a Problem.

For me personaly M&M is the best Pizza Restaurant.

But i heave heard also, that some other Customers are a little bit unhappy about the Service at M&Ms.

Maybe the Job is to Stressful for Maggie and Mario in the moment... :o

M&M's is busy year round. I too like their food and find it good value. I have never been treated rudely there but I am sure it can happen. I agree with walking out of a place if you are unhappy for any reason.

Maggies English isn't so great, so sometimes she does just sort of grunt and move her head. If you initiate conversation in Italian she is very nice.

"She then walks off looking very pleased with herself as if to say "that will show them!!" "

I think you misinterpreted that. Maggie also has sort of a smirk on her face most of the time.

The restaurant is good, but I agree with poster pulse, just have gotten too expensive..

HI

I have tried it 1 time, she told us to sit on a 2 person table, and there were not many people in there, but before we finished our meal it was full

Posted

Ahh, at least Don's getting a break now but poor Meghi now top of the hitlist :o

Well we eat there regularly (2 of us). The place can get packed out very quickly we've noticed. We usually sit at the "small tables for 2" and they are perfectly adequate for a plate of food and a couple of drinks. M n M only specialise in pizzas and pastas (which they do very nicely).

We have also ate at Da Vinci a few times and our bill there is always higher than M n Ms so don't understand the poster referring to prices being higher at M n Ms (is this a mole from Da Vinci perhaps??) Personally find Da Vinci a bit antiseptic compared with M n Ms though you've got a bigger choice menu - not just pasta and pizzas.

There other way to tell costumers to seat at a different table,it doesn't take to much to explain that the restaurant will be full soon and you are sorry but you going to need all the tables. The majority of people understand. :o

No I was just talking about pizzas.  I saw DV's main course menu and I thought it was expensive, but their pizzas are reasonable.  No not a mole, just calling it as I see it, plus DV doesn't charge for the takeaway box like M &M's :o

Hey JohnnyF;

I lived there, Rawaii, for 3+ years. Don't be put off mate. It's a great little restaurant, superb view just on sunset - as you know from your choice of seating!! - give it another shot; you will not be disappointed, but still insist on sitting by the wall.

As you will see it fills up rapidly after 6.30.

It does get full, for me it lets it down because you can only have the huge pizza they serve, ask for a 9 inch and they look at you as if you are slightly retarded!

Have to agree the blonde woman is a bit severe.

The pizza's are good however but given a choice I would go to P Pizza an Phuket town and have two for half the price.

i dont see the problem with two people being asked to sit at a table for two

obviously there is a polite way to say it but why should it be a problem?

Couldn't agree more - the 2 seat tables were fairly pokey but if she'd have explained politely then I wouldn't have had a problem. It was the manner in which she did it that was annoying, plus the fact that the restaurant was empty so unless they were expecting a tour bus then I very much doubt there would have been a problem with a lack of tables. Even if the tour bus arrived she could have asked me to split the tables then and I'd have been more than happy to do so.

Not a big deal anyway, just thought it was worth a mention to see if anyone else had a similar experience as I was genuinely surprised by her attitude. I won't be losing any sleep over it (had a great pizza on the way back to Chalong) and I'm sure the owner won't either...

Exactly, it's not like there isn't a place to eat in Phuket.

A buddy of mine has been talking up this Pizza 2000 on the way to Chalong pier. I haven't tried it yet but might give it a go soon.

i went there last night so now i can comment.

The original poster is a real whiny baby. i sat with my gf at a 2 seat table(although there was 2 couple at a 4 place table since the place was almost empty)

and i had a real great view. Theres 2 or 3 two person table about 1 meter away from the 'window' of this open air restaurant. You can see the 'ocean'(although rawai beach is quite crappy to look at) and the 'traffic'(1 motorbike every min and maybe 2 cars) as good as if u were seated at the 4 seat table.

Also the pizza's taste the same as basilico in bangkok which is pretty high grade for thai pizza(nothing can beat north american pizza if you've lived there.. the fat and... ALL DRESSED)

I'm glad you enjoyed your meal - but if you read my posts again (there's a clue in the thread title as well if you get stuck) you'll realise that I wasn't "whining" about the view, sitting at a 2 person table or the quality of the pizza :o

As for calling me a real whiny baby, quite frankly I don't think I've been so insulted since my sister called me a Big Stinky Poo about 20 years ago :D

I went there with my children ONCE, had worst tiny thing that they called a pizza ever and rude service when I complained.

Don't understand why you call the OP a winer, every situation can handled by the staff professionally with charm and a little explanation if they need the tables for a reservation or expect a full house later.

Johnny F if you want to seat in a larger table you can rent the restaurant for the night & sit yourself down with your feet on the table ,sippin Bolly with a nice cigar looking at the beautiful sunset.

For a first post, that is kind of bizzarre....????? Maybe your future posts will be helpful in some way or another?

Overall the restaurant business is really tough, can't please everybody all the time, so lets get off Maggie's back (the "rude" falang waitress) as she and Mario are doing something right considering how long they have been open. Tons of restaurants here in Phuket are only open a few months and have to quit.
