Yamaha Sr500

Featured Replies

I really miss my Ducati Desmo 250 single, amongst others, and I thought that an SR500 would be a good basis for an interesting project. Do they come-up for sale over here? I've looked in a few places but no joy. I'd be willing to travel for a good 'un. I'm assuming (haha) that the parts would still be ok.

Any ideas?

Thanks for that, Meridian007! I'll keep my eyes open. :o

M- I often see nice SR's for sale just east of the Narrawat Bridge here in Chiang Mai. If you ever get up this way, you might want to check them out. Two shops, one about 200 meters from the bridge, and another one a few km further. Not sure what size bikes they have, but they look very nice. Good luck with the search.

The name of the shop is close to the bridge is "Burning" and the address is 58 Kaew Nawarat Rd. Tel: 0899551727. They stock SR400s plus the Honda Clubman 250/400s.

The only big single I had was an SR500 back in the 80's. Never missed a beat! :o

You could try www.thaigigabike.com   a dedicated SR shop and website.

Were only made for export in japan as its over 400cc,. never seen one in thailand, 400s yes, plentiful,.

Most of the 500's brought here are the later retro type with a drum brake front and rear. While looking cool, you need good brakes to ride almost anywhere in TH. I would get a 500 and swap a few bits from the 400 or another model over. I also really like the dirt track styled custom SRs. Lucky if you can find one secondhand.
