Need a border run service from Bangkok to Cambodia border, leaving very early in the morning. E-mailed Jack's Golf from their webpage, but no reply after 36 hours! Any alternative minibusses, leaving 5-7 a.m. in the morning, preferably Sunday?

Better give them a call.

I did my visa-run with Jack-Golf Int. on Monday last. The 05.00 am service runs daily from Sukhumvit Soi 12.

I e-mailed Jack-Golf Int. via their web-site a couple of days prior to my visa-run. I received a reply within 2 hours. I have, on previous occasions also used their e-mail facility to book a seat and always received a reply in good time.

The service on Monday last was as usual, prompt departure, no queuing at the border, just walk through and smile! Whilst other people - including Farangs - stood lined up in front of the immigration counters. We went through the "Group Tour" immigration counter. Same story when we returned back into Thailand.

The free buffet breakfast at the Tropicana Hotel (where you wait, whilst the visas are being processed) is; how can I put it? I have had better :o !

However, the service Jack Golf provides is easy and without any problems.

Yep, there's always someone to answer the phone. IMHO Jack's VIP Service is the best .. nobody else provides a similar service.

Furthermore, GunnyD's info is incorrect. There is no 7am trip (due to rising gasoline prices) anymore.

Then what is this?

They still do 7am it's now a van......

Outdated! Jack is not really fast with updating his website. It still says the Laos is suspended, but in reality it's operational again since August 4. Read the BBS for updates.

During my last trip last week, the tour girl said that the 7am trip is canceled for the time being.

And because it seems you have a link phobia, here is it spelled out:

16 JUNE (VISA) NO have 7.00 am trip in this during

June 16, 2008 06:45 AM

We have only one trip to Cambodia at 5.00 am.by VIP bus. Please contact us for booking. 02-251-1950

With Jack golf, Is the service for someone who just wants to cross the border and come back with a new Thai tourist visa for 30 days?

I have a ticket for the UK in 2 weeks so I just need to go out of Thailand and come back in as easily as possible.

I assume the charge of Bt2,200 is for the whole process and travel?

Alternatively, is it worth me driving, or is that more complicated and not worth the grief for the limited savings?

Thanks

Its a one day trip to border and back.

It says all inclusive on their website.

I don't think you would save anything driving.

By the way it is not a tourist visa it is a 30 day visa exempt entry.

Thanks Ubanjoe.

So I get what I need, back into Thailand as a tourist for up to 30 days hassle free?

My last (and only) visa run to Cambodia, I took the casino bus that leaves from Near the Rama V statue at Lumpini Park, it was 500THB or free if I changed for some chips from the casino.

I think it left at 08.00 and back late in the evening.

All fairly pretty smooth, and no major problems, just very long queues when entering back into Thailand.

Apparently its arranged and run by the Casinos on the border, basically to ferry their customers there and back. Don't think there is any website for it, I found the info on some forum and tried it out.

Must have been about 18 month ago now. Just went there and went on the bus waiting there, paid 500 baht and got a cheap ride to Aranyanpratet and back.

You should find the bus on Rama 4 road nearby the Silom MRT station if you get out on the Lumpini Park side.

Did a quick search and found this:

"There are a number of Casino buses which run from U Chu Liang Building (on Rama IV, opposite Lumpini park) which ferry passengers from Bangkok centre to the archaic casinos in no-mans-land between Thailand and Cambodia. The cost is merely 100 baht per person however it is necessary to buy a return ticket for 200.

The coach was comfortable although the staff had the misguided assumption that at 5am all of us would delight in having Thai TV piped through the bus as loud as possible. It made catching up on sleep a little tough but we managed it and arrived at Aranyapratet about 8:30." Courtesy Martin Pavion http://www.pavion.net/the-road-to-siam-reap/

Slightly different details from my experience, will continue looking from more info.

Cheers,

If you want to go on the cheap, like to do the immigration procedures yourself, the Casino bus is a good alternative to Jack Golf.

Last time I paid THB 300 baht return (with free breakfast). My Thai girlfriend paid 100 baht with a free return ride to Bangkok.

Buses leave as early as 4:00 am from opposite the HSBC building.

Went there Friday to do 90 visa run on my 1-year multi.

Still open, even MORE backpackers than my last time.

Boarded airconditioned VIP bus (which caters primarily to rich Thai gamblers) on Rama 4 in front of Lumpini part, paid 200 baht (that price is for return/roundtrip... just ask for a free return ticket while on the bus) which also covered lunch buffet at Holiday Palace Casino which included curry CRABS in their buffet!

Visa paid separately (either 1,000 baht or only 700 baht/20 USD if you're willing to risk arguing with them; plus 200 baht tea money to the immigration entry dude if you're staying for one day only). Even after willingly paying the all the "tea money" and "overpriced" 1,000 baht visa, still cost only 1,400 baht all in.
