Just a note of interest: the poll is TIED now. I am a bit surprised the YES votes are so numerous. I guess the rose colored glasses faction isn't as large as I thought.

I voted yes for the hel_l of it as its a silly poll. Im sure others did too. Also I think we all know its just a movie and there are many like this all over the world.

Who asked for a roll call?

many Thais don't know their arse from their elbow and follow like sheep and many will believe everything they have seen in the movie.

I think it's fairly clear where the racism lies in all this.

You either don't live in Thailand or you you observation skills are extremely poor. I din't call them racist either that's your word fool.

I both live in Thailand and have excellent observational skills, thanks. And as I thought you might hve noticed, racism was introduced in the title of the thread, of which you wrote (and doubtless voted) in support. What was that you were saying about observational skills?

As invariably happens on these threads, those who squeal loudest about racism are, without exception, those with the most racist views.

But you don't live in Thailand now. The movie is out now. Therefore you are not affected. Yes the word racism is in the title, but I never mentioned racism at all only you inferred it. My idea was about the possible repocussions obvious or subtle against westeners. Its clear you twisted my opinion to suit yourself. If you you believe it's OK for westeners to be portrayed poorly then I wonder why. That question was rhetorical. The fact is I am probably as much a racist as you are a gary glitter.

So you guys who agree think ONLY people are not white should be the villians? Thats what it sounds like

That's what it might sound like to the ones who really want it to sound like that for their own reasons. I don't think it is good at all for any reason for any colour or creed. Is that perfectly clear now? And I'm talking about the here and now, not the pathetically sad history of the portrayal of one race by another.

What do you mean I don't live in Thailand now? How can you possibly claim to know where I am? I'm posting this from a town in the North of Thailand - I'm as affected as anyone else. That is, not at all.

Yes the word racism is in the title, but I never mentioned racism at all only you inferred it.

From the fact that you were writing in support of a thread claiming the film was racist. Come on man, this isn't hard. You also referred to "the portrayal of westeners in this disgustingly negative way". It seems a fair assumption, given the topic at hand, that you agreed that the film was racist. If you didn't, then you need to think much, much more carefully about what you write.

Its clear you twisted my opinion to suit yourself.

I quoted your exact words, pointed out that they were racist and that it was a rich whinging about racism when at the same time making such stupid remarks. How is this twisting either your opinions or your words? Jesus wept.

The fact is I am probably as much a racist as you are a gary glitter.

Are you really implying that I'm a paedophile because I pointed out that you made a racist comment? Do you really want to do that?

You are wasting your time. This person believes that his prejudices and racism are justified because Thais are obviously stupid sheep. Trying to change that is like going into the southern US and painting black people white. They is still gonna be nigs..

Ignorance and prejudice abound in this thread but that is a good thing I suppose as it may keep them off legitimate threads for a bit..

Good posts, HSM. What are you doing here, slumming like me? I am done - unsubscribing - I have a life..

It must be remembered that many Thais don't know their arse from their elbow and follow like sheep and many will believe everything they have seen in the movie. Oh yes they will.

It must be remembered that many ThaiVisa members don't know their arse from their elbow and follow like sheep and many will make themselves look like complete <deleted> by posting racist insults & moronic generalizations about Thai people. Oh yes they will.

I don't see why such a big question. The answer is always yes and no. Take similar movies in America where blacks are constantly portrayed as drug dealing murderous, ignorant gangsters. Or more historically accurate movies like "The Amastad" or "Roots" in which many whites are made out to be sub human, evil, murderous, bigoted scum of the earth. In both cases there are people who take the movie to heart and paint an entire ethnicity with the brush portied in the movie. Then there are, what I like to believe the majority, that know its just a film and don't allow it to dictate their view upon their fellow man.
