Anyone have suggestions anywhere in the world where a Lao and US citizen can get long term visas fairly easily? I also need internet access. In about 6 months my girlfriend's visa to the USA will be ready and that's where I'll go. People often say on this site if you don't like it why don't you leave. Well that's exactly what I want to do. I have no interest in complaining about Thailand incessantly and I am prepared to put my money where my mouth is and cut my losses. I realize some many think this is an over reaction and others will stay in Thailand no matter what and I have no desire to change your mind. The only reason I post this on this forum is that many are knowledgeable about visas here. Feel free to PM me suggestions.

Check out staying in the Philippines on tourist visas. Easy for US people, not sure about Laos, check the Filipino embassy website in DC. Many people are staying years there on tourists visas if you play the game (extensions in country, flying out every year). I think you will be restricted to S.E. Asian countries.

I posted this on another topic, but copy here again.

I would suggest Cambodia. Would assume Laotian citizen would be permitted visa.

I only know the following from visitng the country five or six times and info from expats that have relocated there. am no expert

On the plus side

Cambodians speak English very well.

The economy is moving fast in the right direction.

Easy to set up and run a buisness. foreign business encouraged.

Schools are good, if you go private.

Low cost for rent and living in main city hubs.

Negative side

Infrostructure, roads, rail, air needs improvement.

Crime in city centers.

The road users, believe it or not, worse than Thailand.

What about Pattaya, as far as I'm concerned its another country and they will accept anyone or thing :o

And they still have a working airport. You might be on to something.

it would very much depend on the circumstances and qualifications of the individuals....finances, professional/career skills, experience and expertise etc...

You can get a buisness visa on arrival in Cambodia , at the end of the month you take a short WALK to a travel agent and for $260.00 you can get a one year visa , no hoops , no hurdles , you are welcome to live here .You can start and run a buisness , you can open a bank account you can have your name on property , etc , etc . I have had no hastles from no one in 3 years .

Give sunny queensland a try!!j and make you legal its worth a try , just come in on a tourist visa move north and disappear, if you have a decent trade ,and not just IT , tradesmen are well paid and no questions asked, and if you are prepared to move out west to the new coal and gasfields, the larger companies will apply for your visa, lots of tradesmen from europe settle here with their families in this way, its worth looking into!! and in most towns some of the natives speak English :o
