Explain.

Three gods A, B, and C are called, in some order, True, False, and Random. True always speaks truly, False always speaks falsely, but whether Random speaks truly or falsely is a completely random matter. Your task is to determine the identities of A, B, and C by asking three yes-no questions; each question must be put to exactly one god. The gods understand English, but will answer all questions in their own language, in which the words for yes and no are 'da' and 'ja', in some order. You do not know which word means which.

Nutz if ya ask me......!!!!!!!!

With all due respect, IMHO this puzzle is not solvable given the limitation of only three questions where each question must be put to exactly one god.

I went through the options (Boolean network) and I can't do it in three closed question transactions.

Cheat sheet for The Three Gods. Even here I consider that more than three question 'transactions' take place to establish the status of each God. Could do it in four if you were allowed to include an AND question, but five questions is what I counted in that link.

...or am I missing a trick? :o

As no one has answered my 'easy' puzzle - I will offer a clue: Harold Lloyd. (Highlight with mouse to see clue.)

I think it is a variation of the 3 Doors puzzle. Only one leads you to where you want to go and there are 3 people at each door, all with the same traits as the puzzle above. I can't remember the exact answer though :o

Without looking it up, I thought the doors puzzle was two doors and one question was, "If I ask the other door keeper which door to choose which one will he/she indicate for my safety?" then you simple choose to go through the other door from the answer given.

It's all to do with the Variables (2) and the options n: Vn

Clock?

Clock?

Explain please Thaddy :o

Nope, if I am right, Cubey should explain, if I am wrong I'll look like a moron ....... not the first thing on my priority list at the moment. :o

Indeed the clock is the clue - I thought such an iconic clock would do it - the puzzle is about numbers - when you start thinking in terms of the solution - it will be one of those moments where you wonder why you did not see the answer at once.

The earlier clue was indeed the iconic clock with hours marked in Roman Numerals, reminder if required.

If I offer the spelling of 8 as; EIGHT, you might see the solution to the puzzle - I thought it was clever when shown to me, after a similar nod towards the clue (he mentioned looking at the clock to see how long I was taking) I got it on the five, just jumps out, doesn't it ?

So no more puzzles to tax our post holiday brains?

(Are you still with us, Cuban?)
...sorry been away for a much wanted (not really needed) holiday, promised that I would not spend family time stuck to a screen, although we watched quite a lot of television and DVDs.

OK, so Cuban's clue was a bit easy:

1 = 8 = EIGHT. I = 1

4= 5 = FIVE. IV = 4

9 = 6 = SIX. IX = 9

55 = 12 = TWELVE. LV = 55.

That might not be the complete solution though because the placing of the roman numerals within the spelt numbers seems a bit random.

Too easy - number of active segments (2,5,4,6) when the number on the left (1,2,4,9) is shown using a 7-segment display such that used on a calculator.

Thinking of a harder one to follow.....

OK - this is a puzzle thread so it should stress the brain a little, try this one.

1+1+8 = Life

1+6+7 = Death

Four days and no response - I don't know, either :o:D

Hmmmm - thought a few people here would have seen the solution, I'll offer a clue: Z

If no guesses by tomorrow I'll give the game away.

In the meantime I posted an easier puzzle here.
