Why move this topic to ""Out of the Box" section ? I think it was a rather interesting thread, Bedlam worthy, wasn't it ? We can't have it ''trashed'' down because of a heated up discussion between two members...can we ? ..nobody will pay attention anymore in Out of the Box.......

The USA is one huge, unified, federalized nation. Really difficult for it to break up. Mexico, hah! Let us just say that whilst some die-hard Mexican nationals still resent that they lost a third of their vast country to the north, if the USA dies, Mexico will be in no shape to annex it. I have been watching the Mexican new peso (MXN) recently - huge loss against the USD. Dollars earned in the USA by Mexicans with damp backs have been a huge support of the entire economy of Mexico for decades. There would be no jobs in Mex. to go back to.

Maybe Alaska could join with Nunavut, Iceland, Greenland, Yukon and NW Territory to create Freezerlandia.

It's been cold enough up here to qualify us for statehood in Freezerlandia.

They've even issued extra blankets to inmates at the Chiang Rai prison; causing howls of outrage from some TV.Com members who have never been really cold in their pampered lives.

One of the main reasons I (and later my dear old dad) moved to Thailand was to get away from Freezerlandia !

Spending over a third of each year shovelling snow, melting ice and being dressed in layers and layers of clothing just to survive kind of sucks after a while.

I had to laugh when I went to Chiang Mai in Dec 07 with my Thai friends. They were telling me about how cold it was up there, and dressing like they were going on an Arctic expedition ! Turns out it got down to about 16 degrees (Celsius) in the mornings !

Back in Canada, in the middle of summer, it goes lower that that (in some places) !

I think if this cuckoo professor's theory did in fact happen, and Canada gained the mid-western states as per the map, you'd find 90% of the population (of Canada) moving as far south as they could get in a hurry !

Sorry Kat, but despite all the "facts" you can dredge up, you don't have a clue as to the nature of the US.  Say the elections were stolen (and many people believe that.) Accept the diminished checks and balances and the weakening of Posse Comitatus. Even grant the idea of an "illegal war," (though misguided would be a far more accurate term than "illegal.") Throw all these in and more, yet you still have nothing to hint at a break-up of the nation.  Why?  By-and-large, the people just don't care.  Certainly not enough for some sort of revolution. And most US citizens feel rather fortunate that they are Americans rather than from other countries. 

Democracy is alive and well in the US, especially when compared to the rest of the world. 

Wish they'd hurry up and get on with it. I'm kind of anxious to get there and claim my share of the spoils (kind of like what happened after the civil war) ! I figure I start up some plantations and import cheap labour from the Mexican and Chinese controlled regions of the FUSA (Former United States of America). Then sell the produce at nice large mark-ups to the hungry folks in the EU controlled eastern regions. After a while I'll probably have to open up and accept some of the former southern states into my empire. That will give me access to the Gulf for shipping and warm holiday resorts.

But I'd like to do all that while I'm still young enough to enjoy it ! 2010 is only a year and a bit away, and I don't see any signs of impending doom ! Let's get it together people ! You've only got a year to bring about the end of the (currently) most powerful nation on earth. Lots of work to do !

And for those wishing to reside in my (soon to be) empire, know this. Tourist visas will be for a maximum of 10 days. Tourists will be require to spend a minimum of $100 per day (at the equivalent exchange rate at the time). Those who don't spend the required amount will hand over the balance upon departure. All tourists will be bio-metrically scanned, bar-coded, RFID tagged and monitored during their stay. Over-stayers will be offered the choice of life imprisonment in an Arctic labour camp, a "short drop and a sudden stop", or having to listen to the collected works of Bendix, as narrated by Guest House and taxexile.

Drug mules will be shot. Drug dealers will be shot. Twice. Drug addicts will be deported to the EU controlled region by being tossed out of high-flying aircraft (half of them seem to think they can fly any ways).

All residents will be required to bow down to me at least 5 times per day. They will have to face whichever direction I am at the time, those this could make some of them very dizzy as I dart around my empire, ensuring every thing is running smoothly under my iron rule !

Regardless of how much (or little) anyone, or any business makes, they will all pay a flat tax of 7% on their earnings (variable depending on conditions). Everyone capable of working will, or face deportation to the Chinese region (try slacking off or claiming welfare there !).

Any ways, you get the point. It will probably take me a year to write the laws for my future empire, so there is still time for this supposed break-up to occur. But it had dam_n well better start soon ! While I wouldn't object (strongly) to be referred to as "Emperor" right now, I would prefer to actually have my own empire first !

Which part of the breakup will you be claiming? I think you are on to something, and I want to emulate it, but I need to claim a different area so we don't come into direct conflict.

Sheesh, I was just looking at the "break up" map, and lo and behold, I couldn't see any part that I'd actually want to rule ! I guess a lot would depend on where the heaviest concentrations of nuclear fall out are (or aren't), whether or not California gets submerged and Nevada ends up as beach front property after the San Andreas lets go, and how much cold weather I'd be willing to put up with.

Idaho, Wyoming and Montana look decent. Might add Oregon and Washington in there as well. The Chinese can have Vegas and Utah and what ever's left of Cali.

Guess I should start drawing up the deeds to my future empire. Wouldn't want any claim jumpers trying to sneak in behind my back !
