Living In Prasat - End Of January Tourist Visa Run To Vientiane? Or Somewhere Else? What Is Better/closer?

Featured Replies

Hi there,

I have just had my tourist visa extended by one month and I am already thinking about the next step. As I have never done this before I could certainly use some help:

I live in Prasat, close to Surin, and I would like to know what is the best/closest/friendliest place to get a new tourist visa?

I have heard Vientiane is a good bet, but then my follow question is, how do I get from Prasat/Surin to Vientiane in Laos?

I need to leave TH before January 28th, so I still have some time to plan.

Thanks for any advice.

Arno.

Vientiane is the best place to get your tourist visa, You can get a 2 entry there.

A bus to Korat and then by train or bus to Nong Kai.

Or a bus to Khoen Khen and then on to Nong Kai.

I am sure others will have more options.

The Mukdahan / Laos crossing border has a Thai embassy.

A lot closer than Vientenne, and there is a bus that goes direct from Prasat bus stastion twice daily (about 5 hours.)

They only issue single entry tourist visas at the consulate in Savannakhet. Plus if you have one now they may not issue another one or put a stamp in your passport telling you not to come back.

They are not very friendly.

Thank you very much for this heads up. I really appreciate it.

I don't mind traveling a little further for a friendlier smile.

Thanks.

Thank you for this reply. I am afraid I have a follow up question though.

Once I reach Nong Kai, how easy is it to get a bus from there to Vientiane? And do I need to get a visa for Laos?

Sorry, but you are really dealing with a newbie here.

Thanks.

Lots of help and info abut Vientiane visa runs, See the last few pages of this 32 page topic: http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/Vientiane-La...sa-t158561.html

After you get to Nong Kai you can get a tuk tuk to the bridge and then the shuttle bus across after Thai immigration.

You will then get a visa on arrival for Laos. You will need one photo and 1500 baht or $35 US.

On this webpage you will find info about the consulate and can download an application form.

You will need 2 photos and a copy of your passport photo page. They don't ask for anything else other than 1000 baht for each entry. When you fill out the application by tourist visa write 2 entry.
