Well, I decided to take up a suggestion to make my own thread. This thread has no topic. Everyone's welcome to lounge here and talk shop about bikes in general. Maybe post some pics, link us to some sites, grab a beer, have some peanuts...

As some of you may know, I got my bike yesterday. It's great and runs well, but I parked it and this morning when I woke up it was farked already. There'd been a fuel leak somewhere and there was a puddle of fuel on the ground and fuel residue on my engine casing, underneath the right side of the carbs, and on a throttle body. I tried starting it to no avail. I took the fuel tank out, and it turns out there's 2 hoses missing that supposed to connect to the fuel overflow nipple. This might have been the cause of the fuel drips. After some chat with the mechanic from the shop I finally got the bike started (with a good fistful of jockeying on the throttle), but it wouldn't idle. So back to the shop it goes :o

On to other matters. More bike porn:

Bimota DB6:

Saw a photo of this on the wall of a bike shop... I just had to share it.

Seems you like Ducatis - me too.

Here's a pic of one I had in England. Used to keep it in my kitchen and when my mates came round, we'd sometimes get horrendously trashed and fire her up! Open Termignonis meant the neighbours got a little riled - particularly as I lived in a semi! :-D

BTW, hope you get your bike sorted Zzinged.

Cheers,

Pikey.

Yes Zzinged GREAT IDEA.....now why didnt I think of it???

That DB6 is awesome, probably one of the better looking bikes of that style.

Abosolutely love Ducatis....have you ever seen anything so beautiful. As for the 999, well err....something just isnt right with that one.

Looks like Pikey is another Duc nutter...ur old bike looks hot, how did you ever leave her behind? Have you got any more pics Pikey?

Ive got a new mag here, Rapid, they tested the 1198 & stated, "The 2009 1198 is an Absolute Animal of a bike that would ANNIHILATE the 1098 on any road or track" Pretty damning stuff. They also go one to states "At 167.6HP and 169kg the bikes baseline is close enought to 1000 BHP per ton." I think they are referring to the S.

Sorry, I thought my dream bike was the 1098R.....reakon a bloke could save a few quid and buy a 1198S, probably do the trick. I'm sure you won't get much change outa 1.6mil baht here in thailand!

Where was this exactly?

Our route took us through Mae Taeng on 1001 toward Phrao. Just past Mae Taeng and a km or so past the road to Buotong Falls, there is a concrete lane heading to the right. This concrete road south through forest ends up at Mae Kuang Dam just north of Doi Saket. You can arrange for the boat to pick you up at the only (two table) cafe in the village of Pasak Ngam. Really friendly folks there. We were looking for a trail out but to no avail. I had taken the boat across with the mountain bike in the past so I knew we had an out. This is a nice dam and I am surprised it doesn't get more use as it is so close to Doi Saket and Chiang Mai.

Yeah thats a 1098R they have. If you wait for the 1198S you will be buying something that is very similar to the 1098R BUT you will only have to pay somewhere around 1.5-1.6 mil. Amazing prices! When you order yours AntR1, can you please order AND PAY for mine. Forever your best friend :o

T_dog, that's some seriously adventurous stuff there! I wouldn't dream of going that deep into 'touring' mode :D

As for my bike, well..... it's back in the shop again. I spent all afternoon there with them. First we had a nice little (heavily flooded) carb cleaning session. There was so much fuel everywhere that it even leaked into the air filter O.o That was followed by some testing runs which seemed to work well. Unfortunately the problem didn't stop there. Although the bike was now starting again, it wouldn't hold idle if you let the throttle go. Playing with the idle speed screw didn't help, so they said they were going to check the spark plugs and do some vacuum testing on the carbs. It *SHOULD* be ready tomorrow.

As for pics... well I was going out to my special spot to take some bike pics this morning, but well I ended up wasting all day. Here are some dodgy phone pics to tide you over :D

Since this photo was taken I've had new rubber put on, a small flyscreen, some black frame sliders, and a blow up doll airbag.

Crobiker, that's a nice find! :o

Zinged.... This is pretty mild and all in a day's riding when you live in Chiang Mai. Come on up and we'll show you around!

Wow what a great idea this was. Thanks to want2drinkmore for suggesting it.

Nice bike bro! Post another pic when all mods are done.

Thanks Cro :o

Mods might have to wait though... kinda short on cash for the next month or so. I was thinking of getting some rearsets, but after riding the bike around a bit I noticed that the pegs are spring loaded and fold inwards. This is to get around the fact that if you're gonna walk the bike while sitting on the seat your shins are gonna bash the pegs big time. Need to do a little more research on this one.

Oh my.. now I'm a member of the litre+ club aren't I =P muwhaha

Good ol Thai mechanics. Carbs were flooded because I had the fuel cock set to PRIME. The boys at the shop said this was primary, and should be used in normal running.

GEE.... THAT EXPLAINS A LOT.

She was a beaut mate and here's a pic before I made her a trackday only bike.

I also had an ST4s and after a particularly "enthusiastic" rip round the Dorset countryside, my girlfriend at the time compared it to "riding on the back of a dragon". That'll be the open carbon pipes again then :o (not shown as this pic was taken when I bought it as an ex-demo from the dealer).

Sold 'em both plus a couple of others when I upped sticks and moved over in 2005. Lovely bikes and oh to have the dosh and the riding opportunities for an 1198...... :D

Cheers,

Pikey.

Hi mate,

Hope all is good for you? I've been around but it's just that when I am not working in the shop, I don't have www access (no landline in my gaff) so I don't post.

Sounds like you scored yourself that 'Blade we were talking about when you were here? Is it coming together? What happened to the Bandit? Resurrected or consigned to the great scrapheap in the sky?

Cheers,

Pikey
