February 13, 200917 yr Just to show I was paying attention when someone mentioned sunpots the other day, #1012 has just appeared, it's a member of cycle 23 so we have not started cycle 24 yet, the build to to the next maxium. (that's when the GPSs might get screwed) Go outside and have a look.

February 13, 200917 yr Author Doubt the sky is falling unless it is also invested in Madoff, my posting on the subject of sun sports spots is a mild piss take on this earlier thread where the OP suggested there was one - where there was not... Otherwise I doubt anyone even remotely cares.

February 13, 200917 yr Author > Brown patches... No that's no paper sindrome. Please note. This is an ofishall bad speeling thread.

Perhaps you should've followed the NASA link I posted. They not me suggested that this was the start of cycle 24. I only read what they wrote, and I was having a go at the climate change morons.
February 14, 200917 yr Moron yourself. Anyone who doesn't believe the climate is changing hasn't got the brains God gave to geese.
February 14, 200917 yr Author Anyone who doesn't believe the climate is changing hasn't got the brains God gave to geese. There is one newsletter I get emailed to me on a weekly basis that has a few interesting points of view on this and other in the news issues, the morons (that write articles or letters to the editor) that amuse me are the one that suffer/encounter either unseasonal or extreme bad rain, cold weather and point to the floods or frozen pipes laughing at 'global warming'. These are the true morons IHMO, but I support their right to hold their point of view. Sunspots and the risk of CMEs can have a very real effect here on earth, the 1989 Quebec, Canada blackout is one example. Indian Times article relating to mobile telephones, but I understand GPS units will be much more liable to interferance. General link on subject. The point is that ten years ago cellphones relied on higher transmission power in the handset, newer low power devices will suffer connection problems, GPS and the satellites at the core of the system may simply not work, consider the flight delays as commerical aircraft may have to increase the safety zone around each flight - can not fly so close together or over the poles. Countries in far Northern/Southern latitudes may get effects to their power grid. Glad someone is counting them. ------------------pondering edit-------------------- Some tin foil hats and a lead lined safe-room might not be so strange in a few years time.
February 14, 200917 yr Labelling people morons for either point of view (apart from being discourteous). overlooks the fact that there are competing views. Part of the problem is that some people label climate change as being a natural phenomenon and global warming as being man-made (and vice versa, and to varying degrees). I think most - not all - people agree that industrialisation has had some level of impact, but the degree of impact is hotly disputed. I would like to think I can come into Bedlam and offer an opinion without being labelled a moron. People who play the man and not the ball should look to themselves... E:T
February 14, 200917 yr The sceadugengan are not renowned for their courtesy to people who call them morons; nor are they likely to acquire any in the near, or for that matter the distant, future.

I should have used adherents or followers or believers, or whatever. Morons was a poor choice of word.
February 17, 200917 yr Moron yourself.Anyone who doesn't believe the climate is changing hasn't got the brains God gave to geese. Sure I believe in climate change, it happens every day. One time the world was under a mile of ice. I don't guess it was a fun place to hang out. One time the land was one continent till it split apart, kinda like some personalities. Wasn't that long ago there was the last great ice age, but it warmed up and I wasn't even riding around in an SUV to cause it to occur. Sure climate change is occurring only it ain't man made. I do agree we should stop polluting the world, make more efficient use of our resources, cut back on the resources we use. But you'll not get me to say man is causing global warming, it was and is a scam on mankind. The UN issued a report on an area of Africa saying in this area the land has been stripped of vegetation and resources in the past 30 years and its the fault of global warming. They do mention at the end that the area was populated by 2.5 millions of people whom built in the area. It was nothing but the expansion of a city that caused the destruction, but the report goes into the global warming statistics page. As for God that's for every individual to decide if he exists or not and if he does, did he really care about the amount of brain material in avian water fowl
February 18, 200917 yr You honestly believe that the billions of tons of pollutants poured into the water and atmosphere isn't capable of effecting the climate? The speed global warming detractors resort to name calling when some one disagrees with them is a clear representation of the fragility of their arguments. I'm not even slightly interested in the weakness of whatever individual UN report you single out to support your "reasoning", my proof is what I see with my own eyes anywhere in the world. Do you realise the millions of dollars that big business and the corporate media are spending to make people like you think like you do? But then you probably believe in the myth of the "liberal press".

Do you realise the millions of dollars that big business and the corporate media are spending to make people like you think like you do? But then you probably believe in the myth of the "liberal press". Pouring millions of pounds of pollutants into our atmosphere causes pollution. It isn't good for man or beast, and as a rational being I have and continue to rail against it. I started my subsciption to Mother Earth News many years ago and have just boxed the whole lot to save for my future use in Thailand. I've a good organic garden and utilize lake water that'd otherwise flow over the earthen dam to irrigate an under ground system I designed myself. I utilize sun power in my homes design over thirty years ago. But you cannot bring me to the global warming crowd just because the planets warming or cooling supposedly because of man. It ain't. The scientists who stand up against, soon learn its better to be quiet and accept funding rather than be ostracized and villified by the press and opposition. So continue to eat their pablum but one day you might realize it leaves a bad taste in the mouth. And if you think corporations are putting money into it, check out what gov'ts cash imput is. 2.8 billion in the new stimulus in the US for climate change reeducation. Thats not counting on the other ways gov't cash is going into both in the US and other countries reeducation programs. Just like many people distrust what the Thai gov't says about anything, I learned long ago to distrust what my and other gov'ts are telling me.
February 19, 200917 yr So tell me what any group, private or government, stands to gain by claiming man's to blame for global warming? You're obviously living on another planet to me if your claiming that more scientists risked or lost their funding by denying human responsibility than the courageous few who originally pointed it out.

Irregardless of what planet I'm living on, I do know that almost all climatetologists work directly or indirectly for their gov'ts. Those in education get their funding from the gov't to study the effects of global warming and they'll find something. Whether or not it truly is caused by man made global warming is irrevelant. I not argueing that the weather changes, but that its manmade. The absolute rancor that is directed towards that don't believe in it tells me something doesn't pass the smell test. Gore states that those that speak out against it should be jailed. Just a figure of speech or wishful thinking on his part? As for what gov'ts stand to gain? now thats a inane question to an obvious answer to what gov't always wants more of, your money.
February 19, 200917 yr The absolute rancor that is directed towards that don't believe in it err... hello? Who was using the term morons here?
February 19, 200917 yr The absolute rancor that is directed towards that don't believe in iterr... hello? Who was using the term morons here? In this case, you. I generally don't proof read what I write, if I lose my train of thought because of whats occurring around me, so be it. Those, should've between towards and don't. If you weren't able to understand the gist of what I said I'm sorry. I personally think its bad manners to point out errors of grammar or punctuation just to get away from the subject matter.
February 20, 200917 yr I wasn't referring to your grammar, I'm certainly well aware that many people on message boards tend to take spelling and grammar rules lightly regardless of the standard of education they may have achieved. I was referring to your suggestion that climate change exponents are alone in the field of calling the opposition names. To my way of seeing it there is much more vitriol and rancor directed at people who think like I do, which if you spend a little time browsing right wing websites you would have to agree with. I think we'd better agree to differ here, if I enjoyed this type of confrontation I'd spend more time in the General section, where I rarely venture. My apologies for the misunderstanding, but not for my beliefs.

OK I not saying that the experts are name calling, just some of the adherents which does have the majority of telly systems and newspapers which are liberal spouting viewpoints. Only talk radio has some divergence until the fairness doctrine is reinstalled, which will elimate most media opposition. Other than my local talk stations web page which I use as my homepage, I generally read no other sources I don't link to from yahoo, which isn't a right wing hangout. I will admit to reading the democratic underground to see what the crazies are saying. Wi'll just disagree and go back to seeking a story to talk about in the pirate thread. avast me bucko
February 20, 200917 yr Admitting that your principal sources of information are radio talkshow hosts certainly speaks volumes about your beliefs. I'm all for a little piratical behaviour but you'll have to forgive me if I pass on the mainbrace splicing. Currently I haven't celebrated the sun passing the yard arm for nearly four months, which probably explains my occasional foray into curmudgeonly behaviour.

I said my home page was the web page of a talk radio station, not that I get the majority of my info from it. In fact very little other than local weather as I need that for day planning (whether or not I'm going to work) I actually spend more time in my wifes computer room and her home page is Yahoo. She works a lot more than I do and her computer room has a much better tv in it than in mine, and a comfortable bed. Mine has only a half dozen bookcases, shelves of signed basketballs and two computers, but nothing comfortable to lay down and watch tv.(nap) ok so I'm a creature of comfort in my reclining years Becareful of them yard arms, oft as naught thar mite be sumpen a hanging from dem a body or more the like laundry.
