AnthonyR1 and travelmate,

I wont be able to make this Friday but count me in for the bike week.

Heading towards Khon Kaen Friday until Sunday and then hitting the track for 3 days starting Monday... you coming out for day 3 at Bira travelmate on the white tiger? Would be cool to see what the white tiger is like on the track.

Anyway, any accomodation, any route is fine with me... just count me in!

If you want advice on top digs in Patong happy to go over the best ones. Both in the noise of Bangla zone and out of it back up to Nanai.

ok - ok, this is killing me! I might have to use my annual leave days to ride down instead of the short cut....if so, than not going to Samui Bike Week before..

Digs, could use some info as I am seriously late on arranging - booking anything....

Cheers!

Bangla zone.. Summer Breeze hotel.. No pool or anything but GREAT management who cant do enough for ya, well run etc and 50m from the top of Bangla (get room away from the street). Second place Orchid guesthouse same zone. Walking to the bar zone but also parking hassle and noise, its Patongs walking street zone.

Out of the noise a few 100m back up to Nanai.. Kellys hotel, newly opened and pool / bar / great rooms.. Ozzie run.. 850 or so a night.. Absolute steal for the quality (for Phuket, this aint upcountry). Cheaper baan sudarat ond of Nanai 2, just a step away from offshore bar (good hangout on nanai Rd) and at a guess 650 a night for brand new pretty nicely sized and finished rooms.. Cheaper again valero guesthouse pool, wifi, functional for (at a guess) 500 a night.. Under 500 and it starts to get pretty ropy.

Not sure if prices get bumped for SG.. Tho I can probably get rates if people want them.

We'll have a chat this Friday to try and sort the dates. I think this is our third or fourth attempt in trying to get anything confirmed. :o

Trent

And for others who cannae join for AntR1's drinks. Are more than welcome join on the Phuket ride.

Hey Dudes!

Did you guys meet last Friday or are you meeting tomorrow Friday?

At any rate- I'd love to check out the Phuket Bike Week so count me in for sure.

Have you heard that Yamaha is organizing a two day ride? First day is Bangkok to Ranong, and second day is the stunning coastal road from Ranong to Phuket. I've never ridden it but hear it's a good one.

The more direct route via Prachuap Kiri Khan seems kinda boring... What do you all think?

Meet up tomorrow for Happy Hour? BIRA on Sunday?

Happy Trails!

Tony

You have to go phrachap kiri khan if my memory of that road is correct.. The road doesnt diverge until chompon. its pretty nasty down to chomporn awful as you first turn due south to hua hin on the 4.. But after chompon on the 4 and 44 combo its smooth but ruler straight.

The fork taking you to Ranong is a nice ride road, however living her for this many years means I have visa ran that road 10's of times.. So its not a favorite road to me. But for the first time you ride it, yes Ranong south is OK, gets nicer around Khao Lak and if you have time to explore phang nga and krabi on the way home I highly recommend that region.

Ooops- yeah, you're right, thanks for the geography lesson :o

Here's the route I'm talking about:

http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&source....943848&z=8

When I drive to Phuket I always take the direct route via Surat Thani, but I've always heard that Highway 4 through Ranong is a much more scenic and winding road, so I'm looking forward to checking it out. Want to meet us half way and ride to Phuket with the gang?

Happy Trails!

^ think we're doing it in a single go dude.

Right on dude- man, if you think you were saddle sore after riding the ~600km from BKK-CNX... Do you realize how much further BKK-Phuket is? About 850km from BKK to Patong. I've done it in one go a few times in a car, and even then it's a LONG drive. But hey- good on ya! Hope you can still walk the next day! :o

So- are you still meeting up for drinks tomorrow?

Cheers!

Looks like Phuket are trying to combine the bike week with Songkran

http://www.songkran.net/en/hilight_11.php

I will be leaving the country to avoid this crap, as I have done for several years. Call me a party pooper or whatever, but I have had enough. The whole thing has degenerated from a pleasant sprinkling of water fifteen years ago into downright warfare. The last straw was a couple of years ago on the day before the main crap started, I was riding my bike in Phuket and some Farang drunken <deleted> decided to chuck a bucket of iced water with the solid bits still in it into my face. Nearly came off the bike.

Never again. Enjoy the ride, but look out for the <deleted>, who will presumably have a lot of fun trying to put you in hospital.

IMO Phuket is a place to avoid over these days, but "up to you", as they say.

Sorry to hear you think Songkran is such a drag 12DrinkMore.

I think it's a wonderful holiday and am looking forward to celebrating it in Phuket this year. Naturally I'll ride into Patong with a full face helmet and all electronics safely bagged and wrapped. Let 'em take their best shot- it's just water man!

And for what it's worth, I rather hate Patong myself. I usually hang out at Kata or Nai Harn or some of the 'secret' spots where it's much less crowded and the beaches are much more appealing, but hel_l, a couple of days of madness in Patong with a bunch of bikers will be fun for a change- I'm looking forward to it!

Happy Trails,

Tony

Yeah I used to have that attitude and enjoyed my first years too.. But over time its lost its appeal. I am still conflicted about what I will do, doesnt help I have to be out of the country 9th on a visa run and really thought I would take the extra week to avoid it.. Tho now you and Trent are heading down I would love to catch up and take you guys round some of the low spots :o Still not made my mind up.

Nai harn probably a bit quiet and out of the action for this.. I think for those who dont like the Patong location then Kamala makes a good alternative, short ride away and has its own little friendly bar scene with less tourist rip off.

Alas I don't think I have time for Phuket.

Just dont want rain when trying to keep a steady pace on.

How steady? I'm pulling between 9000 and 9500 at a steady 160. So 7+ hrs? Still it's been done before :o

I'll still come for a beer if it's on.

Oh I hear you on that- I've only ever gone to Phuket for surfing and visiting family in Karoen. Kata, Kata Noi and Nai Harn are where the surf's at. I'm not suggesting Nai Harn as a motorcycle destination. :o

Anyway- if there's waves I keep a few boards at my sister-in-laws place and would love to catch some surf.

Happy Trails!
