Sarah Gronert is a transgendered tennis-pro who is making headlines this morning after intense scrutiny from her peers in the sports world has brought the role of gender in athletic prowess to global attention.

Sarah Gronert is a 22-year-old from Germany who was born with both male and female sex organs. Gronert has since had surgery to become a certified woman; as of this article, no Sarah Gronert pictures have surfaced of her before the operation. Gronert is considered a tennis phenom; she’s currently ranked #619 in the world. Sarah Gronert’s gender, however, has sparked a giant controversy as to whether she should be allowed to compete as a women’s professional tennis player.

Schlomo Tzoref, the coach of Julia Glushko, another pro tennis player whom Sarah Gronert beat, says, “There is no girl who can hit serves like that, not even Venus Williams. When I heard her story, I was in shock. I don’t know if it’s fair that she can compete or not. She does have an advantage, but if this is what the WTA have decided, they probably know best. On a serious side, in the past sporting events such as the olympics were men only, with the social changes over the years has seen women competing, so to allow equal access to sporting events such as the olympics should there be men, women, women that used to be men and men that used to be men sections within each sport? Would this mean that it takes twice as long to complete the 2012 London games?

Will this mean that Thailand can climb higher in the medal league tables?

Will Tiffany's be short of performers as they focus on track and field?

The article states that she was "born with both male and female sex organs." She wasn't a man who became a woman nor was she a woman who became a man. But I sincerely doubt this matters much to a person who likes to be the first one to make fun of the situation.

I am surprised there is still room for 2 genders at the competitions. Call it open sport and let everyone compete, if you want to break it down put in weight divisions.

Transexual lesbian loses party bias case.

A TRANSEXUAL lesbian banned from attending an all-female party has had her discrimination case thrown out.

Dr Tracie O'Keefe lost her three-year battle this week, after the Equal Opportunity Tribunal ruled the organisers of "Sappho's Party" - an all-lesbian event held in Adelaide - were within their rights to refuse her entry.

The Sydney psychotherapist wrote to organisers in 2005 after she was handed a flyer advertising the Adelaide Hills party.

"I am someone who has lived as a woman for 35 years and considered in my country of origin, England, and my adopted country, Australia, as legally female," Dr O'Keefe wrote.

"Although initially I was raised as a boy, I have lived as a female since I was 15 years old, where I was still legally a child, therefore I was raised both male and female. I would like to come to your event with my long-term female partner of 12 years."

But a reply sent to Dr O'Keefe refused her request. ". . . this event is specifically being organised for those lesbians raised female from birth who feel the need to meet as a specific group," organisers wrote.

"Our intention is affirmative action for this group. Therefore it is not appropriate for you to attend."
