Firstly, want to thank the regulars here who have always been so helpful in the past at answering my questions.

We are headed back to Thailand this winter for the 4th year in a row. Coming from USA. We booked for 91 days. Probably will get a tourist visa before leaving, giving us 60 days to start with. Just wasnt sure what options I had after that. I guess have the option of getting a visa extension, but thats for 30 days? How would I handle that extra 1 day? Is it a big deal or just a matter of paying the 500 baht fee at the airport upon leaving?

Other option Im considering would be heading into another country by land, when our first 60 days are up. Would that mean that I would only get 15 more days after returning by land? So we would need to stay in the other country for 16 days?

Would rather not fly out of country to get another 30 days, so thats not an option im considering.

Thanks for any tips yall might have.

If you leave on the exact 91 day mark and leave from an airport they do not charge for the one day. There is a 24 hour grace period.

You can get the 30 day extension or get a 2 entry visa and make a border run which would give you a total of 120 days.

Remember when counting the 91 days that the day you enter counts also.

Thank you very much! Sounds like we will do the visa extension and get out just in time. Wish we could get the 90 days here before leaving, as to avoid having to visit the immigration office, but I guess there could be worse.

If the cost of visas is not a problem why not get a two entry tourist visa and just make a border crossing/vacation in another country and return for the second 60 day entry?

Thanks Lopburi. You got me thinking now of that option. Though only place that would seem to work out for us would be to go to Sihanoukville. Anyone know if they have finished construction on the bridges that they were working on, that makes the bus ride there from Thailand any faster?

Wrong country.

Sihanoukville is in Cambodia.

Some years ago when I used to come on tourist visas, I miscalculated and found that when I wanted to get the last 30 days extension, I actually needed 36 days. In those days you could extend a tourist visa twice , 30 days a time.

I explained to the immigration officer and showed him my ticket and he gave me the extra days.

Sometimes immigration can be helpful. Don't know if they are likely to do the same now though, but you could always ask.

They can currently provide up to 7 extra days using an extension of stay under consideration provision using normal TM.7/1,900 baht; that after 7 days is disapproved. If you leave within those 7 days you are not overstay.
