Cost Of Childbirth

Just gave birth to our baby girl two days ago (July 5, 2009) at THAI NAKARIN HOSPITAL in Bang Na. Private hospital.

My wife had a near natural birth, with the exception of a late epidural (at 9cm) due to the baby refusing to come out! :)

The costs were as follows.

Natural Birth, no drugs or complications, two nights stay private room: 26,000 baht.

Birth with epidural, two nights stay private room: 38,000 baht.

C-Section, three nights stay in private room: 45,000 baht.

Get a room on the opposite side of the highway!

Staff was most helpful and accomodating.

Wished more staff wore latex gloves during birth.

Most equipment and monitoring units were okay, but not always state-of-the-art (I'm used to USA...)

Food was mostly Thai, but a small restaurant serves Euro breakfast. Cheap.

UBC TV in room with English movie. No BBC or HBO.

Allowed me to stay in room every night.

Room had small reefer, hot water pot, 19" TV, lounge sofa, reclining chair, great bathroom with good water pressure.

Parking is adequate and access is easy.

We rented a serviced apartment within one kilometer of hospital. "Romance Serviced Apartments" on 19 Soi Srinakarin Road, Bang Na. One-room apartment cost 26,000baht/month. We like it. Very clean, safe and close to hospital. We drive a Toyota, and park next to Mercedes, BMWs, etc. I think this apartment building is for temp business travelers. Mostly farang.

Anyway...that's the scoop. Ask if you have more questions!
