The Sino Thai thing is interesting.

I've noticed many of them will very often tell you they are Chinese, then when I speak to them in Mandarin it goes into that Deer in the Headlights look.

This usually makes my wife smirk.

She's a woman brought up and college educated in the US, but is clearly Lao, so is a bit of a coconut.

Didn't stop a Sino Thai shop girl when we were shopping for a wedding dress in Bangkok demand to see her hands, just to check she wasn't a farmer!

I had some choice words, to that bitch in Thai, English and Mandarin

Thats the internal racism they face

Are farmers not allowed to buy a wedding dress?

You should have made a scene.  Maybe kicked one of the mannequins or something then muttered something about karma.

Wow, never heard of such nonsense.

I don't know if you speak or read Thai, but 3-4 years ago there was a viral fb post after a Bangkok guy posted on his page during Songkran or New Year, I forget which now.

'The air in Bangkok always smells cleaner when the Lao go back to Isaan'

So none of it surprises me

I don't read much news in Thai or English.

Actually, as I've lived in Isarn for many years, that doesn't surprise me but the thing in the shop does.

Partners may have changed in the 15 years since this poll was started.

My partner is still the same beautiful lady...

I'm surprised that this topic hasn't been archived by now given the inactivity since 2005.

Maybe my days of physical anger are over, but my verbal anger was enough.

I couldn't get past the blatant racism and unleashed a verbal torrent, in several languages, thanks be to God that I learned curse words in all my tongues!
